Slow people in fast cars

Post by Jimmy Choo »

The mini is slow. Really slow. On my commute home there are 4 or 5 spots on the A40 that I can overtake slow moving traffic and then it's only if there's a big gap in the traffic coming the other way.

Yesterday I was stuck behind a truck that was wavering between 40 and 56 mph and I'd be looking to overtake. Unfortunately between us was a Cayman S that was quite happily bumbling along, far enough away from the truck that a double overtake impossible but also drifting close enough to not let me take them one at a time. There was no indication that they were considering an overtake at any point.

There's one stretch of DC before I turn off on the A436 and as soon as that appears, the Porsche nails the throttle and shoots up to 80 before drifting back down to 70. I floor it until I pass both of them and manage to enjoy the twisty goodness of the A436 without being impeded.

Obviously, the answer is buy a faster car but I do find it mildly irritating that someone in a quick car drives it like a diesel repmobile rather than using it "properly".

This and also people driving awesome cars and looking grumpy! My parents cracked up many years ago when a bleached blonde make up encrusted bag came alongside in Aberdeen in a silver 911 and had a face like a well skelped arse! Their source of amusement was my indignation that anyone with a 911 was duty bound to bloody well smile!

My main problam with the Ka was never having power to get past bigger cars who braked for every corner then hoofed it up the straight only for me to be up their rear (quote at will) on the next corner!

This thread would be better suited to Pistonheads.

Not everyone in a quick car will be on the limit at all times, and not everyone in a nice car is obliged to be grinning like a wanking Jap from the moment they close the door.

Oi! This is my moaning thread which is mostly complaining that I'm not driving a Porsche yet without directly saying that. Stop bringing sensible, rational arguments into this. This is the internet, dammit!

I think the moral of this thread is that fast people should drive fast cars if they want to overtake slow people in fast cars.
How about not having a sig at all?

A Cayman S overtaking a truck that's doing 50mph is hardly on the limit.

I don't understand people buying a quick car and not using it to it's obvious advantages. Surely the ability to overtake more often is the beauty of something powerful :?

Maybe their mother had just died and they didn't really feel like giving it the beans that one time Jimmy saw them?

Is this the Autism Thread? Or the Insufficient IQ Thread?

Was probably sending a text.

I drive the 50 miles of NSL road to the office like its a rally stage. Until I have to do a conference call or whatever and then bimble along paying no attention to anything. Call ends, back to pretending I'm Petter Solberg.

Also whatever interesting cars I've ever had my wife also tends to use them. She probably drives relatively slowly. LOL at the thought of someone getting indignant that she's not overtaking everything.

I’m sure the next time you’re held up by someone you’ll be overflowing with empathy and think ‘Maybe they’ve just got a lot on their mind at the moment’.

I saw this guy walking down the road with his ridiculously hot girlfriend. And he wasn't screwing her! Just walking!

Why wasn't he screwing her? What's even the point of having a hot girlfriend if he wasn't screwing her?
