NATO straps
NATO straps
This discussion doesn’t need to mess up the watch thread, which generally contains nice images.
They look cheap and nasty, make your watch stick oot on yer wrist, and always have excess strap folded around looking stoopid.
These are THE FACTS.

Re: NATO straps
MIC. It's like buying a military spec Land Rover Defender instead of a FFRR.

Re: NATO straps
Like wearing camo cargo trousers with a suit jacket.
Re: NATO straps
Not really - your "suit" analogy is a dress watch. People are putting Nato straps on sports watches.
If you put a Nato strap on a Cartier Santos then I guess you'd have a point.

Re: NATO straps
Why do Tudor commission these straps at significant expense if they are as you describe, Mik?
Moving away from Tudor, for obvious reasons they should not be expensive; they're just a bit of woven nylon with some bars sewn in. Simply because something is cheap does not make it nasty or tacky. They have a purpose (securing your watch in the event a spring bar breaks) and in this weather are more appropriate that a leather strap which will get sweaty or a metal bracelet which will get sticky. And if you have some colour in your watch, they are by far the best way to pick up and highlight that.

Re: NATO straps
How often do spring bars break on these expensive watches? Is it a regular thing?
Re: NATO straps
I've once had a spring bar pull out when I caught my watch strap on something in the car. It doesn't happen often but it is a risk, and not just a theoretical one.
Ignoring that (because we'd all wear G-shocks if we were just concerned about the risk of damage), NATOs often look good. Sometimes better than any alternative type of strap.

Re: NATO straps
It's not a motorbike. It's not a matter of opinion.
Re: NATO straps
It massively is, along with anything else of aesthetic interpretation
Shall we wrap this one up here?

Nobody starts a thread in this sub-forum expecting it to end this soon.

I like to finish as quickly as I can.
That didn't come out right.

Re: NATO straps
I wonder if you could think about NATO straps in order to alleviate that, JL?
Re: NATO straps
I have to be honest, NATO straps were hugely popular.... in primary school.
