Salad Cream

Post by Jezh »

Yep, very soon to be apparently. Going to be rebranded 'Sandwich' Cream which sounds all sorts of wrong.

Some of the quotes in that article are cringeworthy justification. Change for changes sake

I'm irrationally irritated by this. Just leave it be FFS and use your energies to make something new!

Salad Cream is gross anyway, just get rid of it. I'm pretty sure it only became popular because mayonnaise sounded too foreign

Liking or not liking the product is a subjective thing, it is more to do with the banal drivel these people trot out as justification and pandering to fuckwits the best example being

"There are consumers now who haven't grown up with the brand in the household and just don't know about the iconic zingy flavour or what to eat it with"

So why change the name, how will that make anyone know what to eat it with?

They were going to stop manufacturing altogether due to poor sales - but an online "petition" saved it. It's just a marketing ploy and they'll end up keeping it.

this is why Mik is championing the campaign to call it “man cream”.

Totally this. There'll be uproar and then it'll be kept the same. See also Walkers' recent campaign suggesting some of the classic flavours might be replaced with cr4ppy ones from other countries. Just a sales boost.

I fecking love Salad Cream. Waaaaay nicer than the ming that is most commercial mayonnaise - which just has zero flavour. Salad cream on a pork pie is one of my favourites, but it pretty much goes with anything.

Anyone who gets in an uproar about the name of a condiment needs to have a quiet word with themselves .

We're all ignoring the real issue anyway. How is Daddy's brown sauce an appropriate name for anything in the year of our lord 2018?
