Think about how stupid the average person is. Then remember that half the population is more stupiderist than that.

It's the ones that have read a newspaper article that says they can have all their details removed, which only applies under certain circumstances. You probably really don't want me to delete your details from our system if you actually intend on checking into that hotel you've paid for.

They probably asked their banks to remove their details, only TSB beat them to it.

Had a chap at work today, who’s phone had gone faulty-ish. We offer a free repair service during the warranty period, as is the industry standard

He said that because of the new GDPR regulations, we couldn’t send his phone off for repair because... “I must be with this phone at all times. It cannot leave my sight”

He also added that if he were to give me (Internet personality Richard) the phone to repair, I (Internet personality, Richard) would be totally and personally responsible for every byte of data on there, and that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to secure that data

He said that from now on he’ll not be buying from our shop because of this. I’m guessing that from now on, he’ll only be buying phones where the shop allows him to personally travel with the phone on the week long trip to and from their repair centre, and allows him to sit there as they company repairs his phone?

I hope you gave him the customer service a chap I used to work with would; "Well, you're fcked then. Bye." said in the typically cheery Glaswegian accent.

"Can you please delete [piece of data]?"

"We don't store [piece of data], therefore there is nothing for me to delete"

"THIS ISN"T GOOD ENOUGH I DEMAND THAT YOU REMOVE [PIECE OF DATA] OTHERWISE I'LL GO TO THE AUTHORITIES!!!!!!!111!!!!!!"

Of more concern is that a friend of mine (German, lawyer, yes/I don't think so/I don't acknowledge the third one) is genuinely looking to specialise in GDPR, despite it being, in my mind, absolutely mindnumbingly dull as a subject. But then I guess I just read the legislation and that's never fun.

Looks like there's going to be decent money in it for a while. The consultant we used was charging a substantial daily rate and seemed to be pretty busy.

I resigned as a school governor partially because of GDPR. 2 examples - the school secretarty is a fucking idiot and was made the responsible data officer or whatever the title is. She requested more money because she had to adhere to the legislation and then cited various things which are things any organisation should already have been doing as responsible data owners. She told me I didn't understand how complex it was and that she used to be a DATA MANAGER AT AN IT COMPANY. (I'd already met with the head and said we werem't going to pay her any more as 1) the 'extra work' is what she should already be doing 2) she's a fucking idiot and doesn't do her existing job properly, is rude to all of the parents and everyone fucking hates her. He then met with this moron, crumbled and told her we'd up her salary).

I was also in a panel of 2 that undertook the headteacher's performance appraisal and pay review each year. We had another governor who was looking at succession planning ask if he could start to see the head's objectives etc so he could be brought up to speed ahead of undertaking his formal appraisal training. The other person on the panel replied with a load of guff about how we could no longer pass information to each other because of GDPR.

People are just using it as a way to be a cunt when the complaint they’ve made to customer services isn’t going their way. Tripped over a “Caution - Wet Floor” cone whilst pissed, and broken your leg? Why not stick in a Subject Access Request when you get told you’re a clumsy twat?

And how does a Subject Access Request relate to GDPR, since it pre-dates GDPR by two decades?

It’s Article 15 of GDPR. That’s how it relates to GDPR.
