Passport Office

Post by Sundayjumper »

Tomorrow is ten weeks since I did my online renewal application. Thursday will be ten weeks since they received my old passport, according to the Royal Mail tracking. On the passport office website, the last update to my renewal was 31st May saying “old passport received”. Twelve days after it was delivered.

My wife was reading a passport moaning group on Facebook and allegedly the passport office has pulled people from dealing with the backlog and put them onto dealing with new applications only. I assume in order to meet some KPI of <x%> of applications are completed within <y> days that’s impossible in the current queue. Basically writing off the backlog as a lost cause

I’m meant to be going on holiday to Germany on 22nd Aug. There’s a very real risk that’s not going to happen.

It's crazy inconsistent, isnt' it...

Miny-Dinny's was 4 weeks on the dot from electronic submission to Passport in our hands. That was about a month ago

The wife did all of ours earlier this year they all went to different offices for processing but all came back with 6 weeks fine. We spoke to the parents of my sons friend last week and his passport supposedly went to Dublin, which I said surely wasn't possible due to the obvious, but I was assured it did, it's been at least 12 weeks now for that one apparently.
The UK seems to have turned into the Soviet Union for levels of beauracratic incompetence.

I sent mine off during th first lock down as we were due to be going away, the office advice was not to send them unless it was urgent and you were travelling for family reasons. I had the new one in 6 days.

Can't believe it's still not arrived! Can you push them for updates?

The website is still no help, it won’t accept an enquiry until ten weeks after they’ve received it. And by that they mean ten weeks after they have *acknowledged* receiving it, which was 12 days after they actually received it. That takes us to 9th August. Less than a fortnight before my holiday.

From the Facebook passport moaning group we got an email address that you can send a query to. It seems to be an automated system and has told me my old passport is in Liverpool. What that means is anybody’s guess but I originally sent it to Corby so something has gone on there. I have a futile hope that enquiring gets it bumped up the queue a bit. We’ll see.

The website is next to useless. I think Mini Mike's renewal was 6 weeks, but the site didn't even acknowledge receipt of the old passport (sent Special Delivery) until about 4 weeks in to the process.

And don't get me started on the system they use to check the photo quality of pictures taken at home. Took AGES to get it to accept an image - in the end we had to just take a punt on one they thought was marginal and hope for the best.
Cheers,

Mike.

We're doing it for my daughter's first passport at the moment. So far:

Applied, awaiting identity validation: 20/07
Identity validated and requested to send supporting docs (birth cert): 21/07
Chased to send docs: 22/07
Confirmation of receipt of docs: 26/07

Admittedly a long way to go, but all appears normal from our end (sorry to rub it in), we're not in any real rush either.

This Wednesday will be 12 weeks since I did the online application. Some people seem to get them through faster but 12 weeks from now is the end of October so I'd say that if you 're planning on travelling abroad at any time in 2022, for peace of mind get that application in soon.
