Waiting for major work/life decisions
Waiting for major work/life decisions
That period around the final decision on applications for projects, funding or roles, which will completely reshape work for a period of time ranging from months through to years.
Had a few big applications over the last couple of years, where a decision-making date is set, then the organisation who are offering it completely overshoot it.
Last week I submitted a proposal for a big project (for us) which will take ~3 months and move my business up to the next rung of the ladder. The decision-making date was 11th April heard nothing back yet.
The result of their decision determines whether I will need to carve out three days a week to start delivering their project, or if I'll need to dive back into pitching/proposing/selling.

Re: Waiting for major work/life decisions
I'm always amazed at how lackadaisical an approach many companies take to deadlines, especially ones they've set. It is common courtesy to at least notify interested parties of any delays. If they can't even get that right, how's the rest of the org working?

And then you chase them up a week after the deadline - because you didn’t want to do it sooner and appear desperate - and they say “oh yeah, the client decided to cancel the whole project, we forgot to tell you, sorry”
Re: Waiting for major work/life decisions
Exactly, I really don't get it. It's so easy to build appropriate decision making time into their deadlines.
Interestingly, I had also flagged their timeline for the project delivery in my proposal as it definitely required more clarification.

The project has been going swimmingly, totally on track to deliver the interim report by end of June. Everyone happy as Larry.
Then they launched another tender, which specifically builds on top of the project we're doing, with a 20% larger budget. I'm perfectly placed to facilitate it. It was very short turnaround for the proposal, just 8 working days from notification to the tender deadline. It's now 7 days since they received the proposal and STILL NO DECISION FROM THEM
I've got a team of four researchers ready to jump on the project as it's a short (8 week) delivery. WE NEED ANSWERS!!!
Also, anyone know where in the UK to get bulk supplies (e.g. 100x) of items like kitchen equipment without going to Alibaba etc.?

I acted for the owner of WV Howe about a decade ago and he seemed to have a good business supplying this sort of stuff to schools etc - worth a try: https://www.wvhowe.co.uk/
