Perfect. Any calls between about 08:00 & 19:00 can be answered “sorry, can’t talk, I’M AT WORK”

Yeah, told them already, explicitly, that I'll be running the infrastructure for my new beer token sponsors (not strictly true but hey) so no, I won't be able to help.

But hey, they don't need a systems admin, and until three weeks ago didn't even need documentation, so they'll be fine!

On the subject of jobs, does anyone know how recruitment agencies earn their commission?

I’ve been interviewing for a new role and the agency guy seems to be trying to get me in there on less money than the company want to actually pay me!

Does their cut come as a percentage of salary offered or are they incentivised to get people through the door on less cash to bump up their commission?

their commission is a direct percentage of your offer.

They want you to be as attractive as possible, so if you're cheap you have more chance of getting the job, simple as that. (and less chance of being fired because you're cheap so expectations are lessened.)

Basically it's better for them to get an increased chance of actually receiving a lower figure.

Ha good assessment. They’re cunts ;)
They try and act like your friend but they just see you as a fat paycheque and want a slice of your salary just for mass spamming your CV to every company in the area.
How about not having a sig at all?

Yep, you're just a product to sell. The less you cost, the quicker the sale.

Ok, ta. I assumed the higher the salary, the bigger percentage for him so couldn’t work out his angle! I’ll have my own conversations around salary and all that stuff with the company if it’s offered.

The recruitment company will normally charge 10-15%. If the staff member is then getting 10% of that it makes little difference if you are being 'sold' at £50k or £55k a year.

All I know is that the only decent slave trader.... Sorry, recruitment consultant that I like (she regularly took us or for drinks and dinners for updates etc) now has a house in a nice part of Ibiza.

So that 10% adds up :D

Last day of waking up and being angry at everything.

Hopefully the CEO doesn't turn up and try to do a 'speech' or anything - there's only so much smiling and nodding I can do...

When I worked as a studio assistant at a big design firm they gave me a Nissan Micra as a company runaround. I used to rag the hell out of it, redlining all the time and left foot braking around the backstreets.

During the handover in my last week, the new guy was told to get the Micra serviced. On my last day, at my leaving drinks, the founder (who was always a great laugh) walked up to me laughing and said "what's this about a fucked clutch on the micra?"

All of my best bosses were the ones who knew how to crack a joke at their own expense.

They're not going to physically restrain you. You can just walk out and as Jamcg says, what's he going to do? Fire you?

Yeah, true - I am at once overthinking this, and not thinking about it enough.

This has been my morning routine for about four years now.

Spare power supplies for laptops bagged, now to head in and continue training the account managers on how to route international ranges....
