Amusing names

Post by Sundayjumper »

You could not make this up. We've had amusing names before, one-offs, but this is a family set. Three members of the same family called:

Amazing
Praise
Grateful

Which in itself is pretty good in a "I bet they hate their parents" way, but the surname is Johnson. So we've got:

Amazing Johnson !

Praise Johnson !

and then a

Grateful Johnson 8-) 8-) 8-)

I knew someone called Dick Johnson, which is the greatest name ever. Sounds like a private investigator.

If female - and it seems to be females that get the quirky-on-acid names - there's a chance marriage could make things worse.

The first three names that spring to mind that I've seen in person are;

Miss C. Gull
Dr. De'Ath
Mr R. Spain

Infamously stuck it properly hard into an unfriendly bush a while ago.

A girl in my primary school class was called Lily Savage when Lily Savage was at her peak.

When I used to contract at BT there was a good pool of names kicking around the company.

Ken Kong
Bob Sleigh
Santosh Shitole
Beenar Wankar

My personal favourite was Brian Balls. A good, punchy name.

There was also a Bob Sherunkle on the directory but I’m not convinced that wasn’t someone having a laugh.

Are they of African descent? One of the great things about working in oil & gas was the work I did in Africa and all the wonderfully-named people I met there - I'm guessing there's a colonial angle where they'd just pick the most amazing sounding words from our language?
Cheers,

Mike.

Similar in Hong Kong - except they choose the most in vogue names from c.1923. The number of 20 year old Vincents, Ethels, Enids, etc. is hilarious.

Its fascinating and like people say, brilliant and occasionally funny because of the context. We had an Endurance, Magnificence and Courageous working with us.

We also had a Richard Fiddler who preferred to be called Dick. Top bloke.
Cheers,

Mike.

My niece has a friend at school that decided they want to be called "Pretzel" from now on. Niece got quite upset when I lol'd. I try to be supportive, but her friend is a moron.

I met a man of this name (there can only be one, surely) - said he had changed it in the 1980s as he thought it was a fun way to get people to remember him?

Like a less successful Saul Goodman, I suppose?
