Staycation

Post by Gavin »

I hated the "word" when I first heard it but at least it was rarely mentioned and seemed to refer to literally holidaying in your own home. Now it is domestic holidays. FRO

Agreed. If you holiday in the UK and call it a 'staycation' you should kill yourself.

Staycation is staying at home and doing day trips to local attractions.

Any portmanteau created by the press or a marketing dept is automatically awful.

I was horrified when someone called me a staycationer. Whereas I like to think that I'm not a boring fart and like to visit local attractions on the weekends
How about not having a sig at all?

I, in general, resent the idea that for a holiday to be “proper” you have to leave the county.

Yes, I could go to that beach at the Cotswold Water Park while remaining in Glos 😄

Or go Old School and head to the "beach" on the Severn outside the Red Lion at Wainlode.

Some of my favourite holidays as a kid were when we took the caravan to Castlewellan. It was less than an hour away from our house.

It’s reached a new low. It’s now getting shortened to “staycay”
