Mercedes Groups

Post by Gavin »

I have been in various one make forum groups on t'net and Facebook over the years but I have never come across so many people who post pictures with caption such as "My Baby" or "Love of my life"

Not as many "Ah, your one is shit, you want this older one" that you do in Saab and Volvo though!

one make groups are the worst. It's always the people with the worst examples of a model that go on about how amazing they are.

I rang my insurance company to tell them and was *amazed* they didn’t charge me any extra. I finished the day by sticking {insert performance version here} badges everywhere”

Ha ha, I see I am not alone. TBF, they are quite handy when your sunroof sticks open for instance.

Mercedes decal puddle lights are popular but FFS don't have an AMG badge on your AMG line or you are just scum of the earth. If you want an AMG badge go E63 or go home

My favourite was one where they described a BMW driver in a 750 as a go getter, man on his way to the top.

The next picture was a man in a Mercedes who had already arrived.

People should know that when you have a mighty W124 or W126 we are better than those who buy plastic trash anyway 😎.

They are a handy resource when needing specific model info as there are usually a handful of nice/helpful/knowledgeable people when you need them. 95% of the members will be braying morons as described in posts above.

I joined a 3 series one on facebook when i was looking for information on activating the bluetooth streaming. Found the information then had to leave the group - it was horrendous.

The Lotus groups on the other hand are pretty decent. Quite helpful.

ETA - just had another look at the F30 Owners Group on Facebook. This tells you all you need to know in the pinned post at the top

MESSAGE FROM ADMIN.
This is a group for BMWs, any posts not close will result in them being deleted and members being kicked.
I.e. drugs etc
Thanks you

Ah, the old one make forum tribalism. The Fazer group is similar, the front tyre is an odd fitment, 110 width, and hard to get these days in decent rubber. So most just use 120 instead, claiming its "better" anyway. Some no mark uses one and hasn't died so he decided he knows better than Yamaha. Woe betide anyone that points out the obvious issues, including insurance claims.

Although mine fees pretty solid, I think you may be right. I still regret not buying an 86 W124? Estate in a fetching blue. If it had been a nicer colour I might have done but it was more than twice the price of a Volvo 760 which had more toys. I wouldn't be surprised if the Merc is still running though, the Volvo..... I sold as spares and repairs with most engine hoses disintegrating.

Todays one was some guy asking about retrofitting a diamond grill with LED backlit Merc badge to his 2015 E220 Night Edition AMG bla bla bla.

Agreed. The S1 group is fine, there's a few too many with names for their cars, but I can forgive them that.

IIRC the Caterham one was fine too.

I think I can see a theme - where it's something specialist, they're OK. Where it's nearly-new leased metal it's full of twats.

The Scimitar forum is OK, almost obsessively polite and helpful. Wobbly Dave to the max.

Edit to add - we briefly had a Mazda 6 and I checked out the forum. Can you imagine the type of person who is enthusiastic about a Mazda 6 ???

Some of the Saab and Volvo groups, every time I've looked it felt like you have to own one of a very small set of specific model/engine/gearbox combos made within a specific 6 month window, only serviced by specific specialist garages( even if you live 500 miles away) on a full moon, to be accepted as part of the group.

Quite right too! "003 to 2005 pre Edna 95 Aero with AS3, Lux pack or you are a pauper! :D

Then someone comes in with "If it is not a 2 stroke gtfooh"

Anything not RWD is crap in Volvo land too! It is laughable really but tbf the Sw2edish groups and the Mercedes groups do have loads of polite helpful bods too.

Even on here, look at the pelters you get for replacing a windscreen or not speccing Mole Black for your alloys.....

I've never had any issues on UKSaabs or Volvoforums UK?

Everyone seems pretty helpful to each other tbh!
