Thieving scum

Post by Coaster1 »

The catalytic converter of my DC2 got stolen.

Looks like the thieves jacked the car up and used a grinder to cut it off. The cuts at both ends are clean..... would have taken them a few minutes max.

 I am guessing it will require more than a cat to fix the exhaust again? People can be right fuckers.

No, been away for a couple of days with work.

My garage / parking space is in a block, 50m away from the buildings. Spoken to a few neighbours and we worked out it must have happened on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.

Reported to the police and my insurer.

Yeah they damaged the manifold and the mid section of the exhausts, so no mounting points to ‘bolt’ a new catalytic converter straight on.

What a pain. :|

Cunts. I'm aware it's on the rise again due to the local facebook group. They did 7 hybrids in one night last weekend.
How about not having a sig at all?

Hopefully something a skilled local exhaust fabricator can sort YK - maybe welding something in to save you replacing other parts unnecessarily :?:

Yeah I was just reading up about this.... the hybrids ones are worth quite a bit of money.

It’s going through with the insurer now..... I need a courtesy car for commuting so I will pay the excess (£550) and let the garage deal with the rest. I have ‘protected no claim’ on my policy so at least that’s that. :|

Absolute twats.

Where are you in the country, if your local I don't mind popping over and fitting it to save you some money once allowed.

An excuse to upgrade the exhaust....?

Edit: ah if its in use everyday I guess I'm no use :(

Thanks for the thoughts mate! Yeah going through with the insurer now, easier that way.

Funny enough exhausts are brand new Skunk2, only fitted last year.

There was a gang doing this in an Aldi carpark in broad daylight recently. They took about half a dozen in a few minutes whilst people were shopping

I’d love to get a little bit distracted and accidentally nudge a car off it’s jack onto one of these scrotes.

Does seem to be jap stuff that’s the main target at the moment. Jazzes and Priuses mainly.

A little concerned as both our merc and my e36 have pretty massive cats, around here they seem to prefer doing 4x4s as they don’t even have to jack them up.

My friend had the cat nicked from his Prius the day he bought it. Was done in a supermarket carpark in broad daylight. He was rightly rather angry.

I think they target hybrids as the cats are less used so the metals are likely to be in better condition.

Of course this is only enabled by crooked scrappies who then buy them off the scrotes.

No because they contain more platinum and rhodium

Me neither, I remember when I worked at the salvage yard about 10 years ago people would come in asking to buy used ones and get all upset when we told them we got more for them weighing them in than they would ever pay.

I also remember having to replace one on my MR2 and KwikFit wanted £1500 + VAT + fitting.
