Yeah I had to make a quick decision whilst I still had the courtesy car.

Missed this.GG. wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 7:53 pm ...... Mind you that one is missing two cylinders so I'd say you've still got one more munich-wagen to go! If you do upgrade in the future I'd heartily recommend an e9X 330i with the N52 engine (I think - its been a while now - whichever has the silver engine cover) - its lightyears better than the 6s in the E46 (despite what beany might think ).
No Alfa yet! 156 GTA Sportwagon would suit my needs but they’re silly money.
Yes N52, already spoken to Swervin_Mervin about his Even the 2.5 would be nice.
Re: Thieving scum
Shush.
My breaker chums plan was to cut out and clean up the rust, make a list of the bits the car needed, and then once the cost of bits was smaller than the market value, put the car back together and keep/sell, so similar.
GG; aren't the dual VANOS units on the N52 made of chocolate and rather tricky to rebuild?

That’s ‘salesman talk’.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 4:45 pmForgot to say - don't do it! Those that do generally regret not waiting a bit longer for the 330.

I'd guess it drinks as much (or near enough) as the 330 for less power, like the E46s, too?Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 4:45 pmForgot to say - don't do it! Those that do generally regret not waiting a bit longer for the 330.
(I think the later E90s even use a detuned three litre, which Wiki suggests is the case, but might be a US only thing or something - I'm not that up on E90s)
Re: Thieving scum
I test drove an e91 325i to replace the Golf I had at the time (this was after owning a 330i) and the 325 felt like it was broken. Needless to say I didn't buy it.
Beany - you're right, IIRC the LCI e90 325i was actually a detuned 3.0 lump.

Re: Thieving scum
Similar story with the TDs IIRC, but a simple remap = bags of power, although you need injectors swapping to get serious shove.
Can't reeeaaally do that with the petrol ones.

Re: Thieving scum
Later ones are 3.0 yes, same as the 125i. Remap brings them up to almost par. The preferred N52 though is a 2.5 and as you say Beany, it has all of the fuel consumption and none of the power
Re: Thieving scum
Maybe because going from 260+bhp to 215bhp so the 325i felt inferior?Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 6:11 pm Later ones are 3.0 yes, same as the 125i. Remap brings them up to almost par. I would be jumping from 127 to 215 bhp
This one really appeals
