Holiday Refunds Thread

Post by drcarlos »

As requested by Dinny a separate thread for refund strategy.

So far Kiwi haven't refunded my outbound flights, I am waiting on their assisted refund process at the moment to get that back. - Update have messaged both Air France and Skyscanner, AF should confirm that the refund has been made to Kiwi and Skyscanner will apparently apply pressure to Kiwi (threat of dropping them I guess) to give me the money back.

Car rental via Kiwi was a different matter though, cancelled and had a notification of a refund almost instantly.

Booking.com - Got one refund after cancelling (after i mailed the property to say I wanted to rebook and was likely to book again if I got a refund), waiting on a second refund from the other accomodation. Update - Booking called me this morning to confirm that the second accomodation would be refunded. So just waiting for the refunds to hit the card now.

Travelbag - Well after 3 emails I have had zero response, hit their FB page with a suggestion that they need to respond otherwise people will remember and not use them after the virus. Responded almost instantly asking for a DM, sent it and they haven't responded. Can see this being on my claim. - Update been phoned by Travelbag now they have confirmed the refund and will contact me again to confirm card refund details. Just over run apprently but I was supposed to be checking in today so wanted this one sorted.

Budgetair - Flights as it stands haven't been cancelled so I'm playing a waiting game on that one. - Flights cancelled and I must have missed the mail but budget air are requesting refunds and will refund me as soon as they have the money.

Undercovertourist - Park tickets can be extended apparently, emailed them to ask them to do this. Will wait on this. Update - Undercover Tourist sent us a load of info and basically our park tickets now have been extended for a year or can be cashed in and used in whole to buy new ones, we don't have to do anything and as such are still covered under our insurance terms. Happy with that outcome as we can set dates for when we go.

It was a specialist trip with many stops and totally custom built by me, it was a pain to set up and is proving equally bad to cancel.

My mum has been offered 125% value voucher back on a river cruise she had booked. That just rings alarm bells to me...

You’d be mental to NOT get a refund on any holiday IMO

Refund and re-book all the way... if you can get a refund that is...

Who knows how long travel will be affected and who’ll be still standing afterwards

Yep, don’t count on ANY holiday company making it through this, the vast majority run on wafer thin margins and a very fragile cash flow model.

Why would you re-book if you don't know how long travel will be affected? Refund and sit tight surely?

100%

Hotel we booked are offering an upgrade to a suite for the same fortnight in 2021.

Seeing as I cancel up to 48 hours before at no cost, or €90 up to 24 hours before, I’ll decide when EasyJet decide...

A couple of updates above - Booking.com, if they make it through look like one of the best and have been really good.

Yes, I agree although I did shift one flight with Norweigen to October before the guideance from the insurance company came through, it's the lowest value of pretty much anything I'd booked but if they go bust it's a different thing to being cancelled due to Covid so I'll try the CC route on that one but if it fails it won't be the end of the world.

My insurance company has written and told me to try (like Rev said) to claim under section 75 of my CC company before submitting a claim form. Not sure if this is a cop out there end, but the Halifax aren't answering their telephones & the online chat is open for emergencies only, so I guess I'll just have to wait until things calm down a bit.

I've also got a long weekend in Iceland booked for the end of June (daughters 16th Birthday present) but that's also looking unlikely.
Cheers.

Lol.

We haven't had our money back yet but they have another few days. I expect it's not going to be straight forward.

Same here.

Have submitted a claim form now as the CC company said no under the section 75 act as no refunds were in the terms when we booked the holiday direct with Duinrell.

I suspect they'll try to wriggle, but can't see how TBH.
Cheers.

Updated the original post, now I am basically waiting for the refunds to hit my card, i'll give them a couple of weeks to do this before I take any further action.
The stars seem to have been booking.com and budget air, with travelbag ok but needed hounding and kiwi being just shite.

So guess who's getting the commission when I re-book.

No comments on the undercover tourist as they provided information on the extensions to our park tickets, but the truth will be in the booking of the alternative dates.

I'm hopeful for October still.
