Kidney stones

Post by drcarlos »

Had a couple of small ones (and they hurt enough) before but today started fairly normally with me starting a training course (Webex is still currently running iny office now!) This morning and by 3pm being carted off in ambulance spazzed out of my head on morphine and anti sickness meds and I'm currently waiting to see the surgeon for admission as the stone is too large to pass and is stuck. It needs lasering to break it up.
It was horrific never felt nothing like it and I went from a 111 call to 999 in about 20mins, sick upwards of 15 times due to the pain.
Pain meds tonight and surgery in the morning for me.
Happy new year!

Sometimes they pass with a drug to relax the ducts. Good luck with it though, stone pain is the worst pain.

Surgeon came to see me, stone is too big to pass and is stuck. They will open me up tomorrow and laser it. Now on nil by mouth. At least I have a private room though.

A mate of mine got kidney stone pain when we were in Japan. He decided to fly home rather than be ill in a foreign country. By the time he got to Manchester, it had torn his ureter, his body cavity had filled with piss and he ended up with sepsis. Took him 4 months to recover.

So, chin up

GWS! Although the nurse is hot, I'd pass on the bee bath. Sounds painful and I'm not sure you need more pain.

Ouch, much sympathy.

Some years ago I had assumed I had a kidney stone (family history) tried to tough it out.

Turns out I'm not a doctor and an idiot as it was appendicitis.

When I gave in and went to A&E they stuck me on a trolley for the remainder of the evening/night ready for surgery in the morning.

Four day stay in hospital. But the morphine was lovely. Nurses were distinctly unhot.

My mate now religiously drinks 3 litres a day. That’s a lot of water. He’ll probably drown.

I thought it’s due to not fully emptying your bladder or summat

It’s salts and other substances forming in your kidneys. It’s fuck all to do with not emptying your bladder.

Sounds painful, hope you're doing better. And yeah, plenty of water helps reduce the chances.
