Fairytale of New York
Fairytale of New York
Ok song, doesn't need to be played a dozen times a day in the lead up to Christmas.
Re: Fairytale of New York
I've managed to only hear it twice this year.
Re: Fairytale of New York
I hate the Bastille song with a passion.
How about not having a sig at all?

I'm really, really, REALLY, sick of the endless repeat of Christmas pop this year. Only thing worse than the originals are the breathy remakes by whatever popstar is in the charts. Regretting finding the FunKids radio station and getting the kids excited about it.
A salve yesterday was needing to go back home to pick up some stuff, meaning two hours of just me in the car. There was metal, grunge and loud singing. It was bliss!

You know which Christmas song is most irritating when played repeatedly?
Re: Fairytale of New York
it just a shameless effort to get a bit of long term income isn’t it. Record some shit version of a song in the hope of selling it over and over again every year rather than just for the time the song is new.DeskJockey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 10:40 am I'm really, really, REALLY, sick of the endless repeat of Christmas pop this year. Everything that is wrong about Christmas... and the Irish, in one song...

What’s even worse than this is retconning old songs to update for the metoo generation - like the update to Baby It’s Cold OutsideRich B wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 11:49 amit just a shameless effort to get a bit of long term income isn’t it. Re: Fairytale of New York
It’s about how the Irish have collectively adopted the song as an anthem for excusing Christmas behaviour, not where MacGowan was born.

Re: Fairytale of New York
I’ll be honest I never knew the back story to “Do they know it’s Christmas” - always thought it had stupid lyrics and was generally a terrible song. Found out yesterday about that it was for raising money for famine which makes the lyrics a bit more odd but at least the feed the world line makes sense.
