How high is the gearing?! A 75bhp shopping hatch used to do not much more than 70mph at the red line in 3rd, and that was with fewer gears.
Pretty sure the Ka would get further than that, but it was quite long geared (for what it was) because the old 1.3 was a surprisingly torquey lump and could take it quite well.

Could be wrong, mind. Been a while since I've been in a Mk1 Ka!

Rich's Corsa is geared for at least 95mph in third, which is more than the top speed of a Ka - I really don't think 3rd in a Ka would run to more than 70
ETA: closest I can find is this Fiesta mk2 1.4S road test - - 77mph max in 3rd, despite reaching top speed in 4th gear. It also has the same 74bhp as Rich's Corsa. How gearing has increased!

Did a bit of research; based on the tyre size, rough diameter and gearing, mixed in with the engine specs, top speed in each gear would be:
1st: 25mph
2nd: 44mph
3rd: 68mph
4th: 95mph
5th: 119mph

I've definitely reached the limiter in fourth in a Ka Van (bit lighter than the normys - and probably what I was thinking of) but thinking more clearly it had nothing after that in fifth so you're not far wrong on the top speed either - it's officially 105mph but I reckon that's a bit....ambitious.

That was painful. Can only imagine what it’s like coming from a V8.

Would it be faster or slower with tank tracks fitted?

I have now officially given up on attempting this in the Mini. There isn't a road long enough that's quiet enough.

If you deflate the tyres enough for that to have an impact, you'll fall off the road at 70mph and career off the road - so it really depends on whether you're doing it on a cliffside road or not.
