My first time off-road in my old beater Disco and we found some "ponds" (lakes) to play in. One big divot on the bed and the front corner of the bonnet was underwater. It was a moment, but it wasn't dry, and it didn't affect my throat

chest high for Jobbo... ;)

I’ve been over the bonnet due to utter stupidity and my brain instantly pictures S shapes connecting rods and lots of clacking noises. I had a wading blanket but it was mainly luck.

Anything above the top of the tyres and I’ll aim to get out as soon as possible.

Plus, sinking to the bottom is exactly what you want to happen, when you float, you are funked.

Fuck wading if it’s my own car. Done some off-road experiences in their 4x4s but it’s not the most fun thing just driving through deep water keeping an eye on the bow then getting a shit show in the interior. Plus that’s in a known environment, don’t think I’d want the stress of possibly risking an engine just for shits and giggles on a day out. Good to have some experience of it in case of an emergency though but I’m not going wading above the centre of the wheels voluntarily.

RR & RRS float at over 900mm too, it’s weird feeling them start to go light when approaching that depth but if it weren’t for them being light(ish)/sealed they’d go further under. I don’t think you really want to add any more weight into one of those things either, they’re heavy enough as they are and you don’t want to compromise towing/load space.

I guess if you want to go deeper more of the time then you need a Unimog or something else more capable.

It’d be interesting to know what JL’s Landcruiser is rated to as standard.

A paltry 700mm from a quick Google. I think it's more the doors leaking than the engine being underwater, the intake is way higher than that.

Maybe something around the gearbox that they couldn't seal.

I nearly sank my old land rover trying to follow my grandad in his Unimog once, water up to the dash in the interior .

The one the Royal Marines use off landing craft for a time had a snorkel above the roof and a rear floor full of holes and some lead blocks. Straight to the ocean floor and drive right out.

I can’t imagine after a few years of that the sea water will have left any steel on the thing though.

I took the lower door seals off mine as the water drains out faster.

If it can't do this, it's no good.

Yes, I know I'd drown in 900mm of water without an aqualung, but if you're going overlanding you want as much wading depth as you can get.

When I first saw the pics I wasn't convinced, but since seeing it in YouTube reviews I think it looks good. £40k start seems ok too given what you can pay for a Hyundai these days. I like it.

It looks alright. Well the 90 does anyway and I'm sure it'll be a competent vehicle.

It's got about as much in common with the defender as the BMW mini did with the original.

i.e fuck all.

Google suggests it will literally look like the old Defender.

Posted in the spotted thread but thought it warranted going in here too. Had a good look round a 110 on display in Leeds. Looked really good though the box at the back still looks odd and I didn't realise how far it protrudes from the car, a good 8-10 inches. Car is far better looking in the metal than the pictures.

And you can swap to a glass window too if you don’t want it 8-)

The outer rear lights are weird. I've not seen a pic yet where they make sense.

I've now decided I really want a new 90 and not just because of the new James Bond-themed ad.
