Second place in ECOTY 1999, behind the 996.1 GT3. Must have been a quiet year.

Gallardo was 2nd in 2003, behind the 996.2 GT3 !

Ok so even stevens on driving credentials then. I guess the 360 is more "Italian" than the Gallardo if that's what you're looking for (which I suspect you may be if the Alfa has piqued your interest). Obviously that cuts both ways...

Wait I thought the early Gallardo was a bit of a dog? It was only after a few years and special editions when it was turned into a decent car?
How about not having a sig at all?

I think the 360 looks better in its original form.

That actually highlights the headlight issue - those are painted black inside rather than body colour and it reduces the blob-like appearance. Or at least distracts you from it.

I think the 360 have aged well, heard a few near the uni and they sound fantastic. There's a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale that a see infrequently on the motorway to work and it looks CAF.

I’ve always preferred the looks of the 360 to the 355 but I suspect this is a generation thing as it marks the period when I was a lad and started reading evo and getting into cars etc. Likewise the 996 911 over its parents and progeny.

Not much to contribute here, but agree that a 360 looks less crap than it used to. Both an R8 and a Gallardo are much better looking in silver than a 360 though

You really must, truly absurd.

I'll have my F355B in Rosso Corsa with the Beige rather than Crema interior please over any 360 other than a CS.

I do like the 360 though, they've aged very well, would love it if you got one Steve.

It is weird how the 360 had aged well, I guess it's because successive V8 Ferrari's have become more fussy, whereas the simplicity/purity of the 360 design has endured.

Anyway, when I used to do my 80 mile commute to work, I regularly used to encounter a 360 going up the A12 going in the same direction. Never saw it broken down by the side of the road, read into that what you will 😉

Am I right in saying they do have a repution of being relatively robust?
Oui, je suis un motard.

Has the 360 design ever been considered a pure or simple design? It’s just an old car that has reached an age/price where it looks pretty good. Nothing to do with current model line ups.

Other than the 360CS, is there any people that prefer the 360 looks to a 430/458/488?

There can't be, can there?! The 360 really is the 996 of the Ferrari back catalogue. Not saying I hate it (or the 996) at all, but aesthetically it was a low point. I still remember being disappointed by its looks when it was first released after the glory (shut up Dave!) of the 355.

As I’m now on the run from the feds I’m having to use a VPN from Dubai to try and frame James 8-)

A few things which impressed me about the 360 I’ve not mentioned. It was fine on speed bumps, we went to Ironbridge when we had it and reverse parked up a steep hill to go to the pub just as you enter the riverside area. No scraping, oddly my 500e scraped the front bumper there.

It handled heavy rain really well, it was confidence inspiring and the steering was lovely, you just knew what was going on. I have no idea what tyres it was on but I did set the tyre pressures though to the right pressure as I know I’m an anal fart about it.

It didn’t steam up, get manky or ever feel fragile.

It handled a rutted farm track to the campsite we stayed at.

I think the only thing I remember which annoyed me was the abs kicking in a little early, so I wasn’t expecting it.

I really should have another drive of one. :D

The who, enreason I joined the Classic Car Club which I drove the 360 through was to try out some of the cars I had mentallybdecided I didn’t like. So the F1 box in a high revving low torque car was lucky as originally I had the Quattroporte which broke down. The gearbox being an early type took some mastering which made it fun, it was a mechanical feeling so when you did full throttle upshifts at 8000rpm it was absolutely glorious, it wasn’t 8nstantaneous but was still quick. You felt like something was going on which I really appreciate in a car. A far superior modern DSG doesn’t do that. Plus as previously mentioned the power was just right, It felt all of its 400hp.

Try one, I liked it but had a pre-conceived opinion that it would be fun but not for me.

Even taking money into account, I’d swap the 500e for a 360F1, I wouldn’t swap the Merc for a 355.

Dave!

very much so

348 = 964 - not all that much love at the time but appreciated now.

355 = 993 - considered the last/best of a breed by people who can’t afford one any more.

360 = 996 - all new - everyone still teary over the old one and hates this.

430 = 997 - an improved version of the previous one.

458 = 991 - another all new - amazing, but people still bleat on about the Old ones with rose tints.

488 = 992 - improvements on the previous. Basically super car pace.

I think the 360 looks better than the 430, the proportions of the 430 have always been a bit off.

I thought the 360 looked like an egg when it first came out but it's aged quite well.

Agree entirely.

Everyone loved the 430 at the time with its smaller more modern lights, but now, it looks like a 360 with some lights bodged on the top of the back making it look too tall, and squint a bit and you can still see the outline of the large front lights on the wings. The front bumper also looks deeper, but looks like they jacked up the suspension to keep ground clearance.

I like the pure bar of soap look of the 360, reminds me of the f1, and is one of the few ferraris since the 348 not inflicted with a stupid gurning grille.
Cheers, Harry
