Thought I couldn't remember seeing many 2.0 TFSIs. Turns out only 46 were ever registered in the UK.

We looked at Yetis and Tiguans for my dad. In the end that’s what swung it to the Tiguan. Most Yetis we saw were poverty spec as well where as the Tiguan we found for him has loads of kit - even parks it’s self. Which he’s never used But the xenons and the climate control are great. His is DSG as well.

We looked at the quashqai. The autos are shit CVT boxes. They were all without exception rough as well. Bought exclusively by NCG’s to fill with snot and dog shit.

Aside from anything else, the SE doesn't have adjustable lumbar support.

That's good info. Lumbar should be standard on any car. But wasn't it at least an option on the SE?

It was probably available as an option on the SE, I'm not sure, but I agree it should have been standard on it (and everything else these days). I'm sure my parents have their seat backs too upright because of it and it does their posture more harm than good. It's odd, Polos and the like don't have adjustable lumbar but it's rarely a problem, almost like the larger cars' seats are designed to have it and when it's not fitted they don't have any at all, like it's been wound all the way in and away :?

225/50/17s don't do them any favours, but the only way to avoid those is to get a base spec (they run 215/60/16s). A lot of that would probably be negated by better roads and fewer and/or smoother speed bumps though - some round here are like driving up a kerb :roll:

They don't have a spare wheel as standard. They were available as an option - the parts are available to retrofit - but it involves a false floor and a loss of (some) boot space.

Genius mileage! Those A-classes looked great value but the few I looked at were rusting or unloved or both. I think they’ve attracted the sort of owners who care as little for their car as their spelling.

Yep, the problem could be finding a good one (that one just popped up on fb marketplace without a search) :(
£6.5k should get a late, possibly one owner one (or find one at the end of the country :roll: ).

We used to have a W169, and this is where my search started. Also considered the same gen B class. The problem is that the auto in those is the CVT that has a terrible reputation for failing. It's the same box as used in the Mk2 Focus and others and it's horrendously unreliable. I think the only CVT on the market that doesn't have issues is the one used in the Prius. Everything else, avoid.

Ok, so went to look at this, but unfortunately discovered it was a smoker's car previously. It had a couple of light scratches that would easily polish out (couldn't even feel with my nail), missing its parcel shelf, and look a little tired on the inside. All far for the money, and I could have sorted most of that.

But I couldn't get past the fact that it stank, so I walked away.
