Fuck all up with that. Get it bought. He should be thankful it’s not a rusty Vauxhall Chevette.
My first car, that I managed to crash without even leaving our driveway.

It’s so slow though he’ll struggle to go fast enough to crash!

Not sure I can arrayed driving that far for it tbh.

SJ - both myself and the wife crashed our first cars; I’ve warned him to have a repair fund! 😂

Yep I’d be happy with that.

0-60 in 16 secs though, in 2013?! I think my 1990 Polo did it quicker than that!

Fuck me that’s bad, I remember in 2009 looking at first cars and the VW stuff was just as overpriced then for cars with similar performance. The insurance on it will be more than a car with 100bhp too as it’s a VW.
How about not having a sig at all?

16 seconds? Doesn't that just mean that the top speed is lower than 60mph?

Caution; the ad you linked to is an R Line Style, not an R Line as per the Parkers link. It's a basic model with alloys and spoilers rather than a full fat jobby, and 3 pot naturally aspirated (perspirated without ac?) rather than 4 banger mit turbot.

Yes, I'm sure he will

Yeah, just a quick bit of googling - The one in your link is definitely the 16 second 59bhp one. It’s got a 5 speed box whereas the 105bhp ones look like they have a 6th gear.

Polo looks ideal to me.

My son passed his test a couple of weeks back. We got him a 1.2 Polo with just over 100k on the clock, albeit a much older one. It actually feels pretty nippy to me. The 3cyl engine revs quite nicely and it's all reassuringly simples and straightforward. Window winders and you have to put a key in a hole to open it.

I was happy with it because I know from past experience that little VWs crash better than other small cars.

WRT to mileage thing in principle it's all about relative price vs condition. As long as maintenance has been carried out at the appropriate intervals then it's not really an issue.

Looks nicer than my first car! Looks cool enough and will be reasonably responsive without being crazy fast.

Of course at 100k all TSI engine explode.......

Not sure I’d buy a car with a 0-60 time greater than 10secs. Tbh, I didn’t even realise they made cars this slow! 😂 It’s probably more dangerous than a fast car! 🤔🤣

ETA- thanks for the info gents

It is mind bogglingly slow. Quick cars are getting quicker all the time, everyday cars are quicker than sporty ones from a decade ago, yet at the bottom end there doesn't seem to be any improvement. If anything they're getting slower.

A 1990 1.1 metro with a carb and 4 speed gearbox made 60bhp and 0-60 in 13.5 seconds.
