Going for the ‘Ring record; what time do we reckon?
Current record - 919 Evo - 5:11
Electric - Nio EP9 - 6:45
(GT2-RS MR - 6:40)
I’m wondering if they’re going for something beginning with a 5, seems pointless if not?

Hmm, when I read before of their intentions it was to go for the overall record, not just the ev one. They probably are, by not stating it they can't fail whatever time they get.
Re: VW ID.R
600kg lighter than the Nio but roughly half the power.
200kg heavier than 919evo and about two thirds the power.
Low 6min I guess?

112 mph average speed mentioned in article.
12.944 mile lap length.
Just under 7 mins? That can't be right.

Lots of downforce would blunt top speeds massively. Can I take back my revels?

average speed. Do the maths - it’s just under 7 mins.speedingfine wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2019 7:56 amLots of downforce would blunt top speeds massively. Can I take back my revels?

Re: VW ID.R
For those who don't know - six minutes, five seconds.
Re: VW ID.R
Its a bit of a cheat even comparing them though really as its an out and out hillclimb car. They only put enough batteries in it to complete pikes peak and no water cooling so the battery would be dead after 2 laps and it would presumably overheat even if the battery capacity was higher.
It doesn't really seem all that impressive after the 919 Evo that can lap significantly quicker and do it for 24 hours. The NIO or whatever it was called already demonstrated that they can be stupidly rapid over a single lap.

Re: VW ID.R
To be fair while the 919 Evo is based on the 24h/WEC car it's highly optimised for smashing records too. They couldn't run it within the rules for WEC any more, but it wouldn't be reliable for that period of use either. I believe the electric side was starting full, finishing empty for them too so it's not like it could smash out sub-6 laps all day.
Re: VW ID.R
I admit a standard 919 lap of the nurburgring would probably have been more interesting as an indicator of progression versus the 956.
Re: VW ID.R
Quick, but puts into perspective how mental that evo lap was!
