Colour me confused if by German (ish) you mean German brand with non-german underpinnings.
Not Seat. VAG.

I don't know how a Golf (or any other VW or Audi for that matter) would be German "ish".

Technically true, they are present, but not useable. More to the annoyance of my wife when I said I was looking for a £500 small hatchback which she could also use to run around in, and then this came up. I blame Sundayjumper for introducing me to the world of amateur motorsport. :D

Some man maths might make it pay for itself in the long run by being cheaper to do stuff in this, than trackdays in the Megane. Maybe.

The Megane may be on borrowed time, particularly while I'm hardly using it as I get the train to work and we use the Yeti at weekends.

That looks fun. Makes me want to get something already slightly modified for green-laning rather than doing mods myself; I'm sure it's better value that way.

What engine does it have?

This is what I hope to have convinced myself (& my wife).

1.4, 100bhp but with an induction kit and remap (I also have the original ECU). I believe 115bhp maybe.
Std weight is 1155kg according to Parkers, but they reckon it's less than a tonne.

Full cage inc door bars
Buckets
4 Point Harnesses
Sparco dished wheel
8 15" alloys with PS3s in various states - a couple are barely legal but most ok.
6 14" Compomotive MOs (in need of a refurb, but no matter) with random crappy tyres on.
21k on the clock.
Sump and tank guards, both removable. The sump guard has holes drilled in so it doesn't fill with water.
Gaz Gold adjustable suspension
Ferrodo DS3000 pads front on drilled Brembo discs, Mintex 1144 rear
Rally tripmeter thing and map light for the passenger.
Spots on the front are removable.
Left over crest; tightens.

Sounds like great fun. I find that £500 sheds bounce much better off ditches also :)

Slightly more than £500 but hopefully worth it for the extras. I might also try it on a trackday instead of the Megane, as well as autosolos and will of course have to give a targa rally a go (co-driver, I assume, Steve?!).
