That looks shit.
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun it it.

It only looks shit because it looks like a soft-roader. Which is why I overlooked them.
Thing is, Evonomics is kicking in and that's counter-productive. A 60k miler costs probably £5K, an earlier 100k miler from just over £2k. I know the cheaper one is more sensible for scraping through hedges but the less used examples seem much better value.

Re clearance, I think they're 200mm. You can get 2" lifts for them if you needed more. Would probably compromise on-road handling though.
Have you had any thoughts about tyres? The BFG A/T KO2s seem to get rave reviews.

I'm intending to get a second set of wheels and mount BF Goodrich A/Ts - increasing the size a bit will give more ground clearance and I'd quite like to keep some normal tyres on the standard wheels so my wife can drive it on the road.

Re: Cheap off-roader
The rules say that the car must have its full interior (including carpet & headlining), but as you have noticed it's not entirely enforced. I'd err on the safe side though. Paying an entry fee and travelling to the venue only to be denied a drive would be rather disappointing.
For Solos you'd just have to run in the modified / kitcar class, which is only a problem if you're aiming to win your class

I too thought of them as soft roaders, but it looks good and seem capable from a quick google.

Not sure I'll be spending £5k on a Grand Vitara If I was going to buy a rusty old Land Rover it would need a Land Rover badge.

Perfect for the wife! (or her car).
Re: Cheap off-roader
Oh god, that led me down an awful path on Google Images...
