At first I was shocked that they were moist, but I've seen damper.

May have been mentioned but did you see the Shogun buyers guide in last week’s Autocar?
Left over crest; tightens.
Re: Cheap off-roader
That looks surprisingly nice.
I saw a lwb 2004ish Shogun yesterday and had forgotten how much I liked the shape, so I'm swaying mostly back towards the Shogun now. Which is where we came in. It's really the shabby-looking 1990s imports which have the dags image, it seems.
Re: Cheap off-roader
How cheap is cheap? I think I might be acquiring a 55 plate Shogun for free.
I have no idea whether it might be a proper Shogun, a Pinin or a Sport but it’s free. It doesn’t have a current MOT but who looks a gift horse in the mouth?
Of course, free Shoguns definitely conjure up images of dags...

Going to see it on Tuesday, will cost about £250 to prise out of the hands of its current custodian to pay for his investment in a new cat, front propshaft and battery. I think it's a proper Shogun, almost certainly a lwb. It's a 2005 I believe; it's definitely a manual gearbox. Tuesday will be enlightening.

Get a good look under it for rust, roll back carpets etc. And check the 4WD system is working as it should.Jobbo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 5:04 pm Going to see it on Tuesday, will cost about £250 to prise out of the hands of its current custodian to pay for his investment in a new cat, front propshaft and battery. I’m told it’s not rusty but the 4wd isn’t working properly. If you put it in 4wd all the diffs are locked. Drives fine in 2wd which means I can take it to Flewy if he’s happy to fix it. I doubt there’s £2k of work and parts required; but if there is I can decide whether to pay or sell it as is.
Re: Cheap off-roader
My ‘free’ purchase will cost £400 plus getting it through an MOT. It also has an issue with the 4wd system but I’ve found a fairly straightforward guide to solving that; it’s not coming out of 4wd mode.
The car is a Shogun Sport, 54 plate, 150k miles. It’s in tidy condition and I’m sure I could sell it on for a grand so it shouldn’t be a stupid thing to have... but I do have a resistant wife who says it’s old and we don’t need a 6th car on the drive. Realistically it’s probably silly to have it. Uncertain currently.

I think I’ve decided against it. The keeper has been honest about the faults but it could require a new transfer box for the 4wd to work.
Realistically I’d rather pay a bit more for a car that I’ve chosen myself, which works, and which my wife will drive too. No point in cluttering the driveway up with something which never gets used.

If you fancy a cheap, slightly not working, Shogun Sport let me know!
