Yeah. TBF I'd expec the saving of lighter engine and panels to compensate for the 4wd drivetrain, so still surprised it ends up 40kg over the Clio. The Clio 197 had a fairly stiff shell as well as they beefed them up for the Cup racers. Obvs impossible to tell the relative difference thoughBeany wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:25 pmAnd it's four wheel drive, remember.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 3:12 pmWelcome to 15yrs ago
Clio 197 was 1240kg back in 2005, so not all that surprising that a similar sized hatch would be 1280kg by now. Admittedly it's surprising it isn't closer to 1200 when you factor in the weight saving panels and 3cyl engine vs something like the mk3 Clio RS models.
Edit - between typing this, getting distracted by work, and hitting Submit, the point has been covered already
1280kg for a torquey four wheel drive 'smallish' car ain't bad going IMHO.

I think I'd rather crash in the Yaris than the Clio.

Generally speaking it's not often you see a practical <1200kg car these days is it?

*cough* Swift (well, it's more practical than a 3dr Yaris, which is why I won't be getting a 3dr Yaris any time soon)

How much does it weigh Jon? Can't remember which MY you got, but Google is suggesting <1000kg for the latest one, which is pretty impressive.
Re: Decent car YouTubes
My "little" M140i is 1450kg but torque and power mask it quite well.
The Yaris is a cracking little thing and sounds a hoot to drive but like some others on here, it generates zero want.

Mine's the 1.6 n/a mk2 (2015). 1045kg according to parkers. Yeah, the current Sport (1.4 turbo) is showing at 975kg which is impressive, though now they've forced the mild hybrid shenanigans onto it, bringing it back up to 1025kg.

Do WRC cars now have 3 potters with 250 ish bhp?
Alright for a hatchback but no wonder rallying is so shit now.

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Decent car YouTubes
The manual-only Audi S1 (previous gen) is the closest obvious competitor to the Yaris GR in terms of size, power and concept and that weighed over 1400kg, from memory. That did get some good reviews but was criticised for being expensive compared to a Golf R.
The Yaris is really appealing though. It's a bit special because they've taken a lot of care over it and made so much unique, and compared to most cars these days a back-to-basics manual Impreza WRX-type car would still feel refreshing; it's basically going back into a niche which has over 20 years become much fatter and more day-to-day livable to the point where the BMW 335d is almost the modern interpretation.

They have about 300bhp, and have done for about 30 years as they have to run restrictors.
Rallying has been shit since the cars didn’t have to be related in any way other than name to anything the manufacturer made.
Wrc 307cc was a particular low point.

250bhp for the standard road car, I bet the tuning companies will be offering 350bhp in no time which will be fairly interesting.

There's a downside to fitting all that 4wd kit in a small car - the boot is only 174 litres. A VW Up's boot is 250 litres!
They should have left out the rear seats like a Mini GP.

Just looked at the figures,
As near as damn it 100mm longer, wider and taller than an integrale, which was a reasonably practical 5 door 5 seater hatch.
Safety takes up a lot of space

At least the seats are available for use if required, and you can always put luggage on the back seat if necessary - with the seat belts to retain it.

Plenty of time for semi-sensible cars yet. I’m only 66 young man!
