Today’s want
Re: Today’s want
I didn't know Neb was on his second - what happened to the first? Do they look identical, since I only recall seeing photos of a silver 996TT on his Facebook.
The Zenith Blue one looks lovely outside but the grey slip-on shoe interior is just awful.

Ah, that makes it clearer. I barely recall him having a non-turbot 996, don't tell me how longs it's been please....integrale_evo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 10:41 am Had had Dave Tickles old 996 c2 and now has a 996 turbot.
Re: Today’s want
Ah.... the way I read it it was his second 996 Turbo but I guess not. Looks like he got the Turbo in 2019...
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Today’s want
I can't criticise the 996 direction but the Aston will feel way more special. You need to take a look at both in the flesh.
You also get a very different reaction from people in the Aston. Nobody notices a Porsche, they're common. People like Astons. People smile.
And finally - was the 996 in the "sub-zero" section of Top Gear's Cool Wall ?? Nope....

Yeah, I need to get out and see some and drive them. Totally agree with the "wow" factor of an Aston though.Sundayjumper wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 11:07 am I can't criticise the 996 direction but the Aston will feel way more special. You need to take a look at both in the flesh.

I can't believe I neglected to factor-in the "Cool Wall" to my thoughts. Schoolboy error.

A handsome low-mileage, example of the 996-generation 911 Turbo.

"Handsome". I love some of the language used in these ads. At least with Collecting Cars its all part of their thing and consistent, but its when you get the random Auto Trader ones which are literally trying to polish a turd that it cracks me up.IanF wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:45 pm A handsome low-mileage, example of the 996-generation 911 Turbo.

I'm not a massive fan of the bodykit and spoiler combo on that one - have seen it on a few and I don't think it works, particularly the front lip.

Thank fuck that awful number plate isn't included in the sale. I'd started to budget a couple of hundred quid for a new plate on the car I wasn't going to actually purchaseIanF wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:45 pm A handsome low-mileage, example of the 996-generation 911 Turbo.

I like that they've picked a username to match their company name, but have spelled it wrong. And just left it.

There's a proper tight set of hairpin bends up around there, which is nice.
One of them is literally is on the edge of a cliff, which is less so. Fun for buses
Edit - I'm thinking of Berridale, always an interesting point on the trip from Wick to Inverness or vice versa.

That's gone now (or the work is well underway at least)
Re: Today’s want
They're reworking it, or bypassing it?
Re: Today’s want
A bit of both; heading north, they're removing the hairpin and taking a wider, flatter route up the hill. Doubtless better for lorries etc, but... I'll find some links.
Re: Today’s want
Some pics - scroll down, there's a page 2 also. It must have been 2019 when I was up there so only got to do it once
The old route;
Apologies for going a bit off topic, but it's not too far off because I want to go back there.
Re: Today’s want
I'm sure the original plans were to bypass it, but I guess "money" was the challenge.
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: Today’s want
Always is up there, once you get past Inverness no-one in local govt gives a single fuck.
Yeah, getting anything bigger than an articulated lorry up there (and with Dounraey and wind farms up there these days, that's no small amount) has always been 'challenging' and it's astounded me that they've never done something about it sooner.

Re: Today’s want
I wonder how much ends up going by boat and in to Scrabster or Wick? I suspect there's quite a bit of wind-farming business up there these days.Beany wrote: ↑Tue Oct 12, 2021 1:00 pm Always is up there, once you get past Inverness no-one in local govt gives a single fuck.
