My Dad had a 540i and Gavster had a 523i, both were great *

I had a 530i and it was riddled with issues, the most expensive being the torque converter not locking up properly. That was the point where I gave up. A real shame as it was a great car otherwise.

The first two were early E39s, mine was quite a late one. Maybe quality dropped off over time ?

Jon - the 550i is interesting from a rarity POV but £10k seems steep. You could probably get a nice F11 for that, a much better looking, better equipped car (except for the V8).

* but bear in mind this was 10-15 years ago when the cars were a lot younger.

I’m not sure the timing chain guide is flaky on the N62 V8 but the valve stem seals certainly are, as is the coolant return pipe. The ZF 6-sp auto isn’t the most reliable thing in the world either, mostly due to the service schedule having no transmission oil change prescribed.

I was looking at Audi S4 V8s too until I read about timing chain guides - engine out job.

Today's want. Fairly random.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 8092288692

Infiniti EX37.
Pros: 370Z engine. LSD. Rear biased 4WD (from a GT-R, kinda). Big enough for the family. Not too large that it'd be an arse to park. Nice noise (I saw/heard a G37S yesterday that was sufficiently fruity)
Cons: £565/year road tax. 25mpg if you're lucky. Only 1 for sale. Infiniti have pulled out of Europe so limited dealer support (though probably there are several Nissan/JDM specialists who could cover it)

I had a Q50 with the 3.7v6 when we were in Florida last. it was quite nice.

You'd think they'd notice. That said, both AT and the celtic tuning site list it as the 3.7V6 :?

Ah, that's interesting. As the seller just told me, 'Hi, yes this was a mistake and I confirm it is the 3.0 diesel.'. Anyway, I have no idea currently whether I'm going to need a car for wafting/commuting or hopping to the station, so it's all academic. Currently tooling around in the Fabia for the lols.

Considered an FX, Jon? Find a nice rare V8 version and I’m sure it’ll be easier to sell on, when the time comes, than any Q50. Also available with the 3.7 anyway.

I remember seeing one of those for the first time in New York, must have been around the time of the launch as I’d never seen one before and there was something perfectly proportioned about the shape of it and the alloys it was on, really liked it and took ages to find out what it was when i got back as I hadn’t paid any attention to the logos on it.
Cheers,

Mike.

I’m gonna go against the grain and say it looks like a SUV which has melted.
How about not having a sig at all?

I suppose if it's gonna be the big one it may as well be the V8 :D

I had a V8 on demo for a few days about 4yrs ago. Only thing I remember not liking was the autobox hesitation when pulling into roundabouts or out of junctions.

Nice to drive, nice inside with loads of kit. MPG was about as poor as you'd expect in a demo 😂

This is on my next car list - probably next year now. Still swing between this or a 650i. If I did go FX50/QX70 then I think I'd have to do a nic/ste and drop it though

Owned briefly by an occasional driving buddy (regularly joins BenB and Mudge on their highland hoons).

I haven’t even seen it in the flesh - but love the wheels and interior. “Only” a 350 so not commanding the price of the 410 versions.

Replacing it with a new GT4, which I can only assume is due to “packaging” reasons - he’s a fairly big bloke.

Nice, although I prefer the Mudge style rims.

My '02 530i Sport was a piece of shit and didn't work. I seem to remember that Zonda had issues with a facelift 530i Sport too.

Not sure where to post this, but has anyone on here been following the Lister Bell Stratos build thread* on SELOC? 120 pages and still going, but it is going to be bloody lovely when it's finished.

* - Apart from Dan who has done some work on it for the guy.
