If this finishes less than £17.5k I’ll eat my hat.

The RB5 that Evo rated had all the ultra expensive prodrive bits didn't it? that one doesnt,

Same as the P1 there was all the expensive options that made the car..

Yeah.... for the RB5 I think it was called PPP or something, takes it to 235bhp IIRC

For the P1 PPP got bigger brakes and Recoros. Very rare.

The return of Richard Burns in 1999 to the Subaru World Rally team brought this Special Edition to the Subaru fans. 444 examples of this car were made available to the general public sold at £24,995. A "WR Sport" version of the car was available at extra cost, specified at delivery time by the first owner costing £27,500. The car was named after Richard Burn's car number in the World Rally Championship and his initials.

Blue steel metallic body colour
Fully colour-coded exterior
Blue 'Alcantara' and suede-effect interior trim
Special graphite trim for the centre console
Air Conditioning
'Speedline' 17in, 6 spoke, alloy wheels with Pirellia P-Zero 205/45 ZR17 tyres
PIAA front driving light conversion
Prodrive quick shift
Roof-mounted map reading lamps
RB5 side and rear decals
RB5 embossed carpet mats
RB5 Interior Number Plaque
In addition to the standard Subaru Impreza RB5, you could specify the car with the WR Performance Package, which added the following items

Prodrive Wing
Prodrive ECU
Prodrive Exhaust
Prodrive Intercooler Pipes

When I was looking at the Corrado in 2009(?), RB5 (and Clio Trophy) were on my shortlist but I didn’t really have the extra funds. I even started a thread on the old forum. They were from £5k then (Trophy from £7k).

Even then rust was a problem.

If we're posting Imprezas, I'm duty bound to post one of these:

RB5 is my favourite ever Subaru I think.

But yeah, weird how everyone goes on about Japanese cars going on forever yet dig deeper and most are pretty terrible for rot. Mx5s, rx8s, imprezas, mk3 mr2s, integras, s2000s all turn brown just as quickly as anything European.

And speedingfine is correct.

I’d have an evo6 Makkinen over an RB5

I would have an evo over an Impreza, they are better in every way bar the noise in my experience.

It's funny, as a youth I remember lusting after evos and Imprezas big time, but they just don't really float my boat that much any more.

Evo VII RS Sprint was the one I wanted the most, bet they're expensive and hard to find nowadays.

Like Evo’s but prefer Scoobs.

In the past I always thought my lottery win garage would include a 22B, but I think now I’d probably have an Integrale Evo 2/3 instead. Or a proper stripped 6R4

The RB5 was mostly a visual special edition - you could get the PPP (renamed WRPP for the RB5) from Prodrive on any Impreza. The only mechanical difference with the RB5 otherwise was the quickshift and the 17" wheels.

How much would a V5 or V6 STI imported from Japan cost now?

I had my Impreza Turbo for 2 years; a 1999 dark blue wagon the standard 16" wheels which I traded in March 2002 for a Civic Type R. Despite being the more subtle wagon in a subtle colour, everyone wanted a race off the lights. It was irritating to live with.

Such is the progress, back then EVOs had 4500 miles service interval, nowadays Golf Rs are 2yrs / 20000 miles or something like that.

I had a look around a couple of Imprezas when I was 330 shopping. Those interiors, my god, they made the Puma seem well screwed together. Proper put me off them.

I think I had my Turbo Wagon for a year. Everybody wanted to race, the interior was even worse than people warned me and the doors felt like they were made from tin-foil.
Cheers,

Mike.

Be glad you did it when they were still relevant.

I've considered starting a thread about cars that were great but would be a bit shit today and leave me a little regretful not owning at the time.

The Evo VI to me is still mostly about the styling which is somewhat hilarious I know. It looks styled to scare your granny 8-) Some rally reps look just right. I also love the Sunny GTI-R for the same reason
