So you’re saying that engines that didn’t set the contemporary record for highest specific output for a production engine had a lower specific output than engines that did? I, for one, am shocked at this news. Shocked.
nah, just they they’re a “bit shit.”
I think you’ll find they’re “pathetic”.
yep, those two terms are mutually exclusive... 😂

If it's 001, yes and it's been there some time I think. I wonder if he'd give a forum covid19 discount to someone 😆

PS a) it's lovely b) surely mileage wouldn't destroy its value too much given it's 001?

Didn’t he auction it? Looks like Lotus bought it but how much did it sell for at auction?
How about not having a sig at all?

Brucie and David are still around - haven't spoken to either in a long time but they're active on my Steam list.

It was on SOR with Silverstone, IIRC.

Oof. Very much love that. Will be interesting to see what it goes for. Standard colour pre-Covid it should be about £60k.

There was a 355 with that same colour scheme and it was on autotrader for months. 928 probably less susceptible to people with no taste ;)

This colour combo is lovely 👌
Yes love that.

RE Collectingcars..... I believe the seller can either set up a genuine ‘no reserve’ auction, or set a reserve price, but once the bids have exceeded the reserve price, the listing would show as ‘no reserve’.

A 928 should be £60k?! Surely not.

The colour scheme looks like the Elekta limited edition version of the E34 M5 Touring. Not a fan of the combo, personally - a Nephrite interior would be fun though 😃

Dealer advertised manual 928 S4 GTs with low miles have generally been advertised in that region with manual GTSs up at near £70k. Having said that this is a slightly earlier manual S4 rather than a GT with its lightweight wheels and modified suspension so it may have been worth a bit less and a bit less again on account of colour scheme and then its at auction not a dealer - so maybe nearer £40k is fairer.

I guess you're interpreting my "should be" as a normative statement on relative worth, however (which I didn't intend - merely a reference to pre-Covid pricing). On that basis, I still don't think £40-60k for something rare and collectible in mint condition is crazy. If late manual 928s are to front-engined Porsches what a 993 Turbo is to 911s (probably £120k for a 50k miler) then, again, doesn't seem silly to me at less than half the price - much as I'd like them to be less!

The impact of the stigma of a 928 'not being a Porsche' faded with later debates of Boxsters 'not being a Porsche' and is pretty much gone now. In an era of Cayennes, Macans and the Taycan - its arguably much more a Porsche than half the stuff they currently sell.

The 928 is a car I adored for many years, but despite that it's not something I'd ever buy. If a manual one might have sold for £60k in 2019, I think that's just an indication that the car market is stupid, not a real indicator of its worth. I can imagine a 968 CS going for that but the 928 never had quite the praise or cult following.

ETA: the 928 was never 'not a proper Porsche' in the way of the 924; but you're always going to have 911s (and 911-based race cars), and anything else, when considering classic Porsche valuations.

I dont know where to post this.

What a picture.

And obviously today the insurance cover for XP5 would be £2.50, but christ - what a figure.

That 928 went for £30k by the way. Very tempting.

A pair of nice S1 Elises on Seloc. Though I'm sure Dan will be along to tell me they're rubbish, the spec looked good to me, given their price 👍

Edit - hopefully he can tell me what Randy spec is as well 😲

That sounds like a more sensible pre-lockdown price - impressed that it's that high at the moment. Perhaps the 928 will properly become regarded as a classic over time. A far cry from 20 years ago when friends were buying them relatively cheaply and finding that the running costs were ruinous!

Randy is the guy who did well racing them over the years, developed/ helped develop an inverted nitron damper..

He now runs/owns Hoffman’s of Henley who are a lotus Delaware iirc.
