Watched that M3 one last night, looking forward to the rest of the series.

I'm going to have to go back through this thread and catch up with these videos.

Most of the way through all I could think was "please don't use a uk m3 gt for the e36 one"

Thankfully at the end it looks like the gt is a proper lhd one ( I'd still have a 3.2 over one though ) so it could perhaps be the most factually accurate set of m3 videos ever to hit the youtubes.

Enjoyed the video

Would have liked to have seen him try an SZ after to see if the PCOTY comments still held true

Most loveliest this side of an F1 though? Naahh.

Strangely I like the M3 GT the most so far.

Must admit I did raise an eyebrow at that comment. Probably a caught in the moment comment.

It is a pretty awesome sound - far better than the vanilla E46 M3.

(Though, how wrong am I for thinking I prefer the V8 sound in mine!)

I didn't realise they were so rare, makes the amount you see looking well used more impressive.

Although the numbers on how many left suggest that there are more SORNed than on the road, might've just been for the winter though.

I really couldn't live with that gearbox I'm afraid - it slurs like a drunk on upchanges. I dare say it could be helped by letting off the throttle in between changes but then whats the point of that over a manual.

I wonder if anyone has box swapped these back to manual like people have done for the first generation Vanquish. Would seem like a worthwhile thing to do if you're brave enough to tamper with the originality.

It's sort of half a McLaren F1 engine, innit?

Seeing the E36 M3 GT next to E46 CSL in that vid, does make me think that the E36 M3 was also a really good looking car 8-)

Manual conversion is very easy, simple bolt on job with manual donor parts.

You don't even have to swap the gearbox if you use an aftermarket sprung shifter assembly ( as the automated smg won't have the internal springs you need on a manual car to tell you where the gears are )

Of course, you'd want to keep the bits in a box somewhere to bung back on for the resales.

I (stupidly, looking back, in terms of expenditure anyway) spent 1k or so on a Gruppe M intake for the Audi.

In terms of bang-for-buck, that plenum absolutely dry-humps it. Although fitting it would be painful as you wouldn't see the glorious innards of it!

Yeah, it's actually pretty good value. You'll pay about that for one of the really good e46 csl style airboxes.

They charge £800 odd for their standard e46 intake which is pretty much just a k&n style cone filter sitting in a pretty carbon funnel!
