Where’s the photos of your car? It can’t be yours with all black tyresmik wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 5:26 pm Have never loved jet black wheels.
Kept the Evora oem as the gloss black rims were part of the Sports Racer “black pack” (can I say that?), and when squeaky clean - I had to admit they worked well.
As soon as they got a bit dirty and the edges could no longer be picked out easily with a glance - they looked less convincing.
I always said that - when they got a bit scabby - I would go for something a smidge lighter to lift the visuals a bit.
After aeons of deliberation - I went for anthracite with a satin as opposed to gloss finish. I am happy. (But need to paint the wheel nuts now!)
Before and Afters. Different days obviously, but untweaked images.

Need to replace the PPF too
But much better with the wheel colour.

Wheels now have a coat of C5 “wheel armour” and my scruffy nuts are painted.

It will be the same for the back as it was completely gutted of everything and all made new.Nic wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 1:48 pmI’m 4k in to the welding and resto on the front end of my 124 so far, thankfully the back isn’t too bad.speedingfine wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 10:09 am
Happy to show my very silly workings
Well the fail list was pretty ugly (see below) welding and bodywork was required elsewhere too and I knew the car would have to look decent to be able to sell it for stronger money as most shonky ones don't fetch much at all. MOT failures and breaker cars sell for about £600 even ones with a leather interior like mine.
To do a long lasting job isn’t cheap but the cars deserve it.

There’s gutted and then there’s gutted.

I must admit, mine didn’t need quite the same level of surgery

Even though you can get repair panels i didn’t want to start patching stuff in so bought a donor car. Donor car was also silver so that meant I managed to get matching rust free wings and bonnet at the same time. Should help minimise the amount of paint it will need once it comes out. Engine has been rebuilt, just waiting on a new water pump before that goes back in. Wiring harness which is another common fault has also been remade. Pretty much starting the reconstruction phase now.
And here’s one of the others a bit further down the process.

Re: Your fleet running reports
ABS/DSC light was on the M5 and BMW quoted my dad £3000 to replace it. I googled it and it’s a pretty common problem - there’s a company who will repair it for £250 with a lifetime guarantee which is much better.
I guess the biggest challenge in all this is relying on one of the shitty couriers to get it there and not lose it.

How about not having a sig at all?

Dry joint on one of the solenoids ? E36s suffer the same thing.
Cayenne update - tracking done and a trip to Towcester for a shakedown gave the best ever fuel consumption of 27.4mpg. Coincidence ? It had barely beaten 25 before.

No it’s the actual brushes which either wear out or seize on electric motor. In this case I reckon it’s just seizing because if you drive the car over a pothole it works again until it’s parked up.

Ooh who did you get to re-do your harness ? I had to buy new as a few loom people couldn’t get the right connectors (think 3 of them) apart from Merc who refused to sell me any less than a bag of 100Nic wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 7:39 am Even though you can get repair panels i didn’t want to start patching stuff in so bought a donor car. I ended up with a brand new lower harness in the end.
That 190 is going to be a really nice addition when the 124 is done

Sileck motorsport wiring on the south coast, they redid the engine harness, starter motor harness (which was really bad) and rewired the throttle body, £640 inc vat which isn’t that bad.V8Granite wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 4:41 pmOoh who did you get to re-do your harness ? You probably already have but if not give BBA a try http://www.bba-reman.com/gb/index.aspx
They're in Rochester so easy to get to and avoid couriers altogether
Re: Your fleet running reports
The Mercedes pics make me both want and not want
It's fantastic to see them getting done and being kept on the road

So the Jag broke down, I took it home and parked it up, and off we went again in the V60.
Guess what
EPB stuck on, motor snapped off of the nsr caliper.
Only 3 miles from home so the pads got sacrificed.
2 new motors, discs and pads £278.64, seems pretty cheap to me!

Yeah I saw them pop up on google but I don’t like dealing with companies which just state “POA” on everythingnuttinnew wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 6:22 pm

My pump motor (big black circular bit) failed on my S60, so I bought a tested second hand unit, unbolted and swapped the motor over and it was perfect afterwards.
