I had a wheel nut come from the opposite carriageway and hit the windscreen, that made a good bang

Took the XJ8 to a Jaguar specialist lunchtime for them to drive and listen to. The verdict is low gearbox oil. They had a look underneath and spotted it's got sealant around the gearbox sump, which suggests the gasket wasn't replaced properly/at all previously.

Booked in for a couple of weeks time for a full gearbox service. I should probably stop driving it now :(

Picking the 911 up Friday and dropping off the 335d to get the OEM springs back on.

Also got to decode about 2021 racing plans, the Loltus needs some TLC and some of the southern endurance series keep catching my eye, as does tarmac rallying..

Got the Haynes manual for the Galaxy today. Section about the windscreen is one paragraph stating "don't replace the windscreen yourself, go to Ford". Bloody useless. Not a word about how to remove/refit the trim.

Estimate is in £322 for a gearbox service, so that sounds much better than £2k for an exchange 'box.

New radiator should turn up tomorrow. Well I say new, it's off an ebay jag parts bloke. He phoned me up today before he posted it just to check it was definitely the right one for my car - was very helpful, exchanged a few pics of the existing one and he worked out which of the two he had was the right one, and said to calll him if I needed any advice when fitting it. Top bloke.

You meet the nicest people in Jags. :)

That blue Elan is the nuts. I mean, I'd still go for the classic yellow....but dayum.

 Not that you're getting old, more that the roads get shittier and more speedbumpier. Nothing worse than having to get over 14 speed bumps at 0.2mph.

Up!date - really tempted to get a remap. My bi-monthy run up the A458 suggest a bit more 'oomph' over 50mph is needed. Celtic do a remap upto 150bhp and 200lb/ft, which is +36bhp and +50lb/ft, which is significant in a <1ton car.

In more interesting news, I've a gentlemans agreement for a new stablemate. I don't usually do preview announcements, but I'm like a kid waiting for christmas with this one. I had 5 different cars on the shortlist, but this came up and I couldn't refuse so didn't bother with the rest. Whoop-whoop 8-)

Guessing what car it will be with you is futile - but I feel fairly sure it’s not a Porsche 😄

Had a great run to the caravan in the XF today, clear roads mainly, where there was traffic it was easily passed, it can certainly get a shift on!

Feels so composed when you go for it, yet its like a limo on the A roads sat at 90, so quite and comfy.

Love the adjustable seat side bolsters, they really hold you in place.

Passed 4 camera vans on my way here, they're certainly trying to get the money in at the minute!

Hope I saw them all

Not-great build quality, damp, and lack of regular use to dry them out has meant repeated problems with the lights on the trailer. Corroded connections and wobbly bulb holders.

Today I soldered all the bulbs in place and added LED work lights as uprated reverse lights. It’s turned out quite neat I’m tragically excited to try them out once it gets dark.
