Re: Your fleet running reports
Got the 330 back today. New ecu as the old one was indeed confirmed as beyond redemption. They've also fitted a new ECU box, as they reckon the original was warped, hence not sealing properly. They showed me the seals, which looked like they'd had their best days a long time ago, and the tide line inside The heat cycling over a long time eventually warps the box.
So when it was cutting out when I was turning, it was nothing to do with the engine being under load at low revs and the PAS pump throwing it all out - it was probably the water sloshing to one side in the box! That said, PAS reservoir was also getting low so that's been topped up as well.
Back to rude health. Which cannot be said for my wallet

Alfa 147's used to suffer with wet ECU's (well, and wet engines!) but they were 'locked' to the car so only brand new ones from Alfa would work. Times have changed so they might have cracked things by now. Is it the same on the BMW's?Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 3:56 pm Got the 330 back today. Seems to be Matty. I've no idea where the "new" ecu is from, but I'd assume the pattern parts market is open. The specialist they used then just copied the data over from the shagged old one. £1200 + VAT from BMW for one Cost me £450+VAT

The ecu just needs aligning to the ews immobiliser control unit.
Bless BMW and their sensible modular design.
Was the 147 part of the 'red key' era, where you had your normal day to day keys and a special red key you must not lose under any circumstance otherwise you need a new ecu and matching key? Pretty sure one of my dads alfas had it, and maybe one of my mums puntos.

Where is the ECU in the E91? I remember E61s suffered with wet electrics because they were under the boot floor and the panoramic sunroof drains would block up, diverting water directly towards them. My second 545i had a sunroof so I cleaned the drain holes and opened up the drain pipes as per internet guides and never had a problem with it.

Under the scuttle Simon. There's the adjacent drain holes taking most of the runoff but when googling it became clear that some screen and bonnet run off runs underneath the ecu box out of another drain hole. Ecu box also has a valve/drain at the bottom. Guess what happens!Jobbo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 5:32 pm Where is the ECU in the E91? Quite a few remove the grommet of the inner wing drain beneath and one I saw even drilled in extra holes. Darren Wood were happy enough that wasn't the issue though.
He told me that the new 5s are prone to filling up under the carpets due to crap bulkhead seals.

Drove up to Glasgow on Tuesday morning, cruise set at 76 in comfort mode. See image 1.
Wednesday morning was spent driving around Edinburgh with dreadful economy image 2.
Image 3 is continuing from Edinburgh with a good spank down to Galashiels then from Selkirk to Moffat on the wonderful A708. 6c and greasy roads made for a very entertaining journey on worn out GYEF1SS rears. Dabs of oppo everywhere . I had a great time!

Those...aren't the best. I reckon in similar situations my old 6.0 VXR8 did about that!
Re: Your fleet running reports
You must have a right foot like a 10lb Mcswede.
My Manual M140i averaged about 30mpg and the M2 26mpg which given the performance I think is ok.

Eco-Pro is awful so doesn't get used as the car feels broken. I use comfort for cruising on the m/way. I am a mahoosive juvenile though and can't resist squirting it at any given opportunity though. I like to use as much of the performance as I can when I get the opportunity to do so and I get lots of opportunities
The cost of my fuel is covered for the most part so I needn't worry about it. I'm just enjoying it while I have it

The other thing worth adding for anyone looking for new tyres is that the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport are fricking awesome and are especially so in the wet. On the run from Selkirk to Moffat yesterday they really took some abuse and behaved beautifully. They feel superb up to and beyond the limit of adhesion. Breakaway is progressive and doesn't surprise. The front end feels mighty good and just keep on gripping.
I can't recommend them enough. New set of rears going on tomorrow

How do they compare to the MPSS/PS4S McSwede?McSwede wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 10:30 am The other thing worth adding for anyone looking for new tyres is that the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport are fricking awesome and are especially so in the wet. I don't think I've been on the Selkirk to Moffat road, but whenever I head up to Edinburgh I always go via Moffat up the A701. A great little road
Re: Your fleet running reports
They are a big step on from the MPSS. I haven't tried the PS4S only the PS4 and they are superior to those. The most significant gains are in the wet but dry performance is as good or better than other UHP tyresmikeyb wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 12:07 pmHow do they compare to the MPSS/PS4S McSwede?McSwede wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2019 10:30 am The other thing worth adding for anyone looking for new tyres is that the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport are fricking awesome and are especially so in the wet. Might have to give the F1s a try. Both my rears are close to the legal limit.

Tedious car update
The mini failed its MOT on a knackered flexi pipe. I'd already had to change all four tyres and with a service, it's been a bit of a pricey month. On the plus side, it's in rude health. Now it's sorted, I'm planning what to spend my bonus on...
