It’s ready to run, but I didn’t have the right oil in stock, so I’ll pick some up on the way in to work in the morning.

Yep. Tip a gallon of oil in it, turn it over until the oil pressure light goes out, put the plugs in and fire it up.

Had the Merc in the garage today for a bit of warranty work. One of the 4 (corner) brackets that attaches the panoramic roof to the rails that it slides in had broken a few weeks ago. I see it only as a simple bracket that needed replacing but the garage but in for a whole new rail/gulley/brackets on that side of the roof. Warranty company took 2 weeks to approve it then they had to ship the parts over from Germany.

All done now, just in time for winter.

All done and running better than ever.

Oil pressure came up very quickly which was good, fired instantly once I put the plugs back in.

Used my pressure system to fill the coolant, took a few minutes to bleed a bit of air out of the heater pipes but that was all.

Since I had the bottom end balanced to less than 25g/mm its now noticeably smoother than it was before, not that it wasn’t smooth anyway.

I fitted some vibratechnis engine mounts while I was in there and they’ve made a big difference, feels more much positive on and off the throttle and the gear change feels nicer too.

All in all 100% successful mission :D

I like that you've turned a negative into a positive with the balancing and mounts 8-)

It's actually not that difficult I think. As it's 'basically a Honda' underneath I believe the swap is quite straight forward and has been done a couple of times...

MOT day for the 330i. Expecting a fail on the front pads, which I had intended to sort but just didn't get round to it.

Sure enough - FAIL. But discs as well for being below the minimum thickness. Still, can't complain, as the discs at least (and possibly pads I can't recall) were on the car when I got it 9yrs/71k mi ago...

Discovered a "sport" menu hidden in the Golf's settings that shows the boost pressure, engine power output, etc. So I had some fun with that on the way home yesterday.
