The £500 car for a stag do challenge

Post by Orange Cola »

This has come up a few times recently so thought I’d post it up on here to see what you lot can come up with. The rules are simple, you’re going on a stag do which is a road trip to say, Scotland, where you’ll tour around for a week. You have a maximum of £500 to go and buy a car for the trip, this includes fixing or upgrading anything necessary to complete the journey.

At the end of it you’ll need to sell the car to recoup your money.

Best suggestions win an IOU for a pack of revels.

Just go on eBay/AT/etc and do a search up to £500 - it’s not as though you can be fussy and hold out for the exact model you want to come up for the money and timeframe needed.

An old ex-funeral stretched ford Scorpio/Vauxhall senator would be good, but unless you have 6 months to find one, you may just end up getting whatever is available.

No that isn't good enough. We need to know what make, model, specification, mileage and accessories we should be targeting for the 500 quid. It's a perfectly simple request and I feel that you're just not taking it seriously enough.

I'd spend the £500 on fuel for your Mustang.

Is it worth pointing out that driving a shitbox around the north of Scotland for a week sounds like the worst idea for a celebration ever?

Sounds like they just want rid of him so they can piss off on the real stag do without him.

I bought and ran an e36 323i manual (with 125,000 on the clock) for 18 months at one point.

Exceeded your budget by £100 but I think I got roughly £400 back for it when I PX'd it for an e90 330i... which was very fortunate as it was overheating like a bugger at the time

Rear wheel drive and 6cyl for peanuts and it sounded epic with the resonator pulled of the airbox. Sadly it would only do skids in the snow as the suspension was past it and it had no slippy diff - so bargain hard and put aside another £50 to weld the diff :D

You could get a decent Saab or Volvo from eBay, especially a petrol as bizarrely some people still want diesel.

Pay someone £500 to drive you there and back! 😂

There are a couple of Vtec (Yo) Hondas, and a lot of Rovers for that money. I’m disappointed there are no 2CVs in there tbh, cos that’d be interesting/fixable by the roadside.
Cheers,

Ian
