Porsche can’t deliver new cars in the UK

Post by NotoriousREV »

So my mate is awaiting the handover of his new Macan, and, despite it being delivered to the dealer last week and being fully prepped, his dealer contacted him yesterday (a day before the planned pickup) to say they had an issue and there was going to be an unspecified delay.

After 24 hours of badgering the dealer, Porsche GB etc. he finally found out why:

Apparently the on-board phone booster that boosts your signal for hands-free and the tracker has a max output of 3W, which exceeds the max UK output of 2W and OFCOM have banned them from delivering any new cars with the 3W boosters fitted. Estimated as 2 weeks for a fix.

I think the issue is more that its interfering with everybody elses phone reception (but obviously it isn't as prior models must either have not had the repeater or must have had a 2W version.

From what I understand, this has been going on for some time between Porsche and OFCOM and OFCOM have gotten fed up with the lack of progress and finally brought down the ban hammer after many, many warnings.

Strange that Germany and the UK would have such different rules

2W to 3W is a huge % difference

I guess this’ll all be fixed after we leave the EU, just like powerful hoovers and filament bulbs...

the filament bulbs wont be an issue as they havent agreed any contracts with the EU countries to supply us power yet...

Huh? leaving the EU will sort out a British restriction of 2w, when the pesky German car company uses 3w?

Are they they only ones caught up by this? From what I read they are. Which would only emphasise this is a fvcking massive balls up by Porsche if so.
