Surrey Rolling Road, Aug 11th

Post by JonMad »

Anyone around?

Now I've had the decat removed I'm curious as to whether the power is affected, so might pop along ahead. Haven't checked their availability yet but it's £40 for a printout. Also unsure how consistent these things are, particularly with different weather, seeing as across SundayJumper's 3 runs the power went up each time within the space of 30s.

Result will either be
- no change in power - result
- less power - boo :( or could just be natural variance
- more power - woo-hoo! or could just be natural variance

basically I'm likely to just disappoint myself.

I don't need another go on the rollers but I might pop down to watch.

Was it mapped for the decat?
If it wasn't it's unlikely the cars management system was able to compensate for decrease in back pressure from the decat so power wouldn't have gone up.
If it was mapped in power will go down and I would get it mapped out quick, the increase in back pressure can be a serious issue for the turbo as the management can't account for such a large change the other way.

Quite possibly it was remapped for the decat as the previous owner talked about having some pops and bangs mapped in. *sigh* I'll contact the company who did it and see what they say.

So, having had one conversation and a few emails with the firm that did the map, they said it would have been done for the decat and was a Stage 2 and to go down to a Stage 1 or revert to standard. Fair enough, but the printout I then found from them shows it listed as a Stage 1. So I've asked if they think it'll be ok (based on their previous comments). The way it was described to me is that the turbo has to work harder to get the level of boost being asked of it by the map, given the reduced flow with the cat in place.

I assume the boost level is based on rpm, so hopefully they or someone else can show me what the std boost/rpm curve looks like, vs a Stage 1 one. Mainly for interest but partly so I can work out where I need to short shift if I want to give it no more abuse than if it were back on the standard map.

There are probably several flaws/inaccuracies in all that :)

Might skip the Aug 11th date now and wait for a later one once I've worked out what to do here and whether I want to spend a few hundred quid getting another remap done.
