Mrs SSO has been busy with the key board recently and she just posted up an article on her Maserati GranCabrio: http://karenable.com/2018/06/mrs-ssos-m ... rgeous-ii/

I love the shopping jammed in there. Good to see it's a practical beast.

Love those Masers, but by god, the running costs. As someone on PH said about the GT "I knew I was in trouble when the specialist told me to fit the cheaper Ferrari 599 version of the part"

Our experience has been much the opposite. 599 GTB was much more expensive to run.

   It sounds like a much more expensive version of the Saab "Is this a GM part or will my wallet get raped" game.

I owned a Saab 900S many years ago. Complete lemon of a car. Something was always going wrong with it.

Sounds more like my e39 530i that was perfect in every way apart from the engine stopping whenever it felt like it.

I had a e39 M5 about 15 years ago. Great car to drive when it wasn't needing to have the oil topped up, the clutch replaced...etc

Sounds like my M5 experience. All worth it but I had to remind myself on occasion.

I confess, I'm not fully up to speed on your ownership/test drive history but what's your position on the best BMW M car? What would be your super saloon of choice?

Assuming that they were both working, which did you prefer driving, the M5 or the RS?

BMW actually bought the car back from me when they could figure out why it was drinking so much oil.

To be honest, I haven't driven that many of them as they haven't been high on my list in recent years. However, still have a strange attraction to the e39 M5 and the E63/64 M6 given the V10. Super saloon of choice these days would be the Maserati Q4.

It's a terrible cop-out of an answer but I genuinely rate them equally.

The Audi is more accessible and enjoyable day to day and has more top end go, but I'd never think about taking it on track, for example. It's also quite obvious it's based on a car from a lower class than the M5. I do enjoy the heavy duty feel of the driving controls more than that of the M5 though.

The BMW was a very special car with incredible balance and old school RWD handling fun, but felt a little too grown up for me sometimes when it wasn't being ginger-stepson'ed. Which admittedly was rarely. A very classy car but not as thuggish and immature as the Audi, and the Audi has better arches :D

I don't regret a single day spent with either of them 8-)

The RS4 but mainly because it's better made and easier to own. Not cheap to run but it doesn't go wrong as much as the BMW.
