Jaguar XJR-15

Post by SSO »

Just finished an article on the Jaguar XJR-15. Its one car fairly well soaked in Le Mans DNA.

Enjoyed it but I'd like to know more about what it was like as a driving experience. I remember reading about them when they were new and it was quite a performance to even start them. Toggle switches for fuels pumps, ignition starter etc. I also remember reading, as you said, that they were pigs to drive. Was this the case and if not what were the test drivers missing? Oddly I've seen several of them, 3 at one motors how, but like the Mclaren F1 I've never seen one on the road.

I wouldn't call them pigs to drive, just very different. Basically it was a Group C race car with a license plate.

Remember Clarkson driving one of these years ago for some film and losing it in a straight line (in the wet, IIRC) - that's how it was meant to look through the camera at least.

I would venture thats was more of a reflection of the driver's skill than the cars ability.

V12 racing car with number plate has hairy arse non shocker^^^

Nice write up. IIRC there's some good onboard on YouTube of one of these, do you know the car?

Apart the F1 GTR what other car can give you the Group C V12 experience on the road? 8-)

I was always fascinated by the XJR15. Particularly as Tom Walkinshaw appeared to have provided something far more desirable than an XJ220, whilst being paid by Jag to work on (and assemble?) the XJ220.
