Dom(ster3000) was using the unbelievable performance of his incredible modded Cupra as the basis for his entire happiness or rather lack thereof, and was absolutely incensed that my Fiat was quicker. He accused me of cheating, of the road being downhill etc etc and finally decided that, many insults later and accusations of me "really getting on his tits now" moaned, repeatedly, that the test didn't suit his gearing. It was horrible to watch and he left the forum soon after, before coming back later, whinging on about how the local supermarket fuel was causing his car to run badly, having another whingy pathetic tantrum when we told him his car was broken, and he's not been seen since. And good riddance, frankly, but it was a shame to watch him unravel to that extent over something so absolutely inconsequential as the performance of strangers' cars relative to your own. Hanging on too tight didn't even begin to cover it.

He was always a bit short - quick to go on the offensive / agressive etc IIRC...

Ah, the "doesnt suit my gearing" is locked in my head, but I couldnt remember where it came from.

So...... did you cheat? ;)

Ex colleague had a 20VT coupe that we zipped down to Norverningerland in - to take part in a team endurance outdoor karting event. Which was great fun, but we arrived to find many (semi) PROFESSIONAL RACING DRIVERS in RACING PYJAMAS with RACING SPONSOR LOGOS on them. Who promptly made our efforts look as amatuer and inexperienced as they were. . But I digress - my point was that the 20VT made rapid progress x-country and made and awesome noise when the shift occured close to the redline. Nice cars (although it was a shame 50% of his interior - including door seals etc had been chewed by his German Shepard Cross when he left it in the car one day).

Am I being mental or has no one timed their Golf R for the list?

I believe you are being unmental.

Maybe they are too quick to be timed? :?

There's actually a little post-script to all of this that I forgot to share - when I was driving down the bit of road the other day that I filmed the 60-100 run all those years, I went "oh fuck me it is a little bit downhill after all!" - oopsies  (edit - well apart from when I told you lot on Page 1 - senior moment)

Oh - I forgot about another detail - this is how obsessed Dom was with the whole thing. As my car was in kms, I did the run 100 kph to 160 kph. He complained that that was effectively 62-99 mph so wasn't comparable, and he wasn't joking.

I really do still shudder at the thought of it all, and I'm pretty sure it was as far back as 2006 as I got the M5 in 2007 and never drove the Fiat after that.

They are pretty swift even at m-way speeds. I had a bit of fun with one recently and there was not much in it up to 120. The 911 was quicker and I'm sure I would have 'hammered him into dust' if we'd have taken it up to the far side of 150 but I don't much fancy prison food.

I never got round to it, which I now regret. It would have been nice to have the comparison.

Leave it with me.

I should really re-do the Exige too as I suspect it’ll dip into the high 4s now.

I'd have thought an R would be high 5s / low 6s too depending on hearing and manual or dsg. Certainly my work colleagues lightly modified dsg Audi s3 was as quick but no quicker than my m3 over a similar increment.

My M140i did 5.7 so I'd expect it to be close to that.

If you really wanted to time the Exige you would have done it by now.

I need to do the mito but slower cars take a lot more planning 😂

Gut instinct says to 70ish it's quicker than my 318ti was, but to a ton I'm not sure.
