The trailing edge of the skirt looks to have paint damage as well. It's high up for a kerb, so would have to be something like a bus-boarder kerb or Trieff kerb to damage that high up.
ETA: Ahh, I see the paper now.

Jesus! Glad it’s getting sorted. I’m amazed it’s still holding any air. Or is just a run flat and not actually holding a pressure?
Cheers,

The guy was like "It's fine to use, we drove back on the motorway at 70mph with it like this"
I had to let him know about blow outs and their danger with tyres in this state

I’d be having a very close look at the chassis mounting points for the suspension arms.

New (refurbed) wheel and tyre fitted and paid for by the guest. Amazingly the car has avoided any damage, the local garage and alignment people had a look and gave it the all-clear. Sounds like the guest got very lucky and that the rim absorbed the worst of the impact by snapping.

I'm genuinely surprised by that; a friend in Sweden had a big spin on black ice in their 9-5 at about 60kph, and when the black ice suddenly ended it went from zero grip to all the grip instantly - while he was still fully broadside.
Most of the bushes on the side of the car that got back on the tarmac first (which had been 'ok' in the previous years roadworthiness test over there) were buggered as a result
Smashing the fuck out of a wheel and getting away with it (beyond the replacement wheel, obviously) is pretty good going.

Now you just need 3 more punters to f up the remaining wheels and pay for new ones
