What’s the gearing like? (max for 2rd & 3rd, motorway speed rpm etc)

Has FECPOTY 2021 voting closed yet?
👍🏻

it only arrived this afternoon, so not had much chance beyond an initial thrash round the country roads. I'm heading out again in a bit - I'll try and get a more objective opinion!

I think I'm banned from FECPOTY after previous shenanigans.

Seeing as 2021 hasn't closed yet, I would assume "no" :D

Can someone start collecting nominations ? @mik ??

I've done a load more driving now and formed some more opinions. Brain dump:

I love the steering and balance, VERY bmw, definitely reminding me of the M3 now - it seems to pivot around the centre of the car whereas the golf used to very obviously pull you from the front.

The gearing definitely short, and as a result, when you're not "going for it" it seems to actually like cruising at lower speeds than the golf - I haven't had it on a motorway, but on typical NSL type roads it'll happily be doing 50 something rather than 60-70.

However, when you want to give it some, you can slam it through the gears taking it right up to 7500rpm in the same way the e92 used to. The first time you look at the speedo on a 0-60 dash - you're doing 80+!

I'm not entirely sure about the Rev matching - (it gives a blip on downchanges) I've not had it before, so I think I'll just get used to it.

The brakes aren't very grabby - you need a good prod to get them doing anything.

The petrol tank is small - £60 of SUL and it was full - interesting to see what the range will be!

Under the bonnet there's the big carbon strut brace which is cool, especially as it all looks brand new under there too (unsurprisingly, it's only done 4600 miles).

The best feature of all though, is the seats - they don't really fit the car (physically) as they're from the M4 - the lever to pull it forward is basically trapped beside the b pillar. However, they have an M2 badge on them that lights up when you unlock the car! 😎 I'm so easily pleased!

My little boy loves it too!

Can you switch the rev matching off?

Those wheels and paint colour make a great car look even. This imho is more of an m car than the current m3/m4/m5.

I was very close to one of these when I swapped to my Z4, wish they make an M version of the G29 before they become hybrids.

I've been having a look around in the daylight - it seems the carbon fibre fairy has been sprinkling her magic over my car, which is nice.

Grill, side badges and rear defuser all upgraded from standard gloss black items.

The seats were the only thing that made me deliberate over changing to a Comp.

It's a bit sad, but just like the E92 I always felt like a champ getting in it in the Morning.

Lovely purchase 😎

not easily - but apparently if you do it yourself it will let you and not butt in.

Did you buy the car blind? How did you not know before it had sprinkling of the good stuff?

Also, is that all? That's rookie amount of carbon fibre, you need to pump that number up ;)

Edit...is it fibre or fiber?

yep, I test drive a few examples at dealers to see if I liked the model (a man M2 and a dct comp) then bought this one online without seeing it in the metal. It’s basically new (4600 miles) and still under warranty, so I wasn’t too concerned with checking condition (which is perfect - not a mark anywhere). If there’s anything wrong, I have two weeks to reject it anyway.
