Stagea is 4.8m. Galaxie is 5.3m.
My car is 4895mm. I had said it was 5m long as well, gutted.

That is a big old lump of a car, hope it is everything you want from it...

Good luck not having someone rant at you at a fuel station on the way back. Does it overhang the trailer?

I've just got home. I've still not driven the Galaxie, it was raining when I got there so we loaded up fairly quickly and I headed off.

I set off with a full tank in the Cayenne and did the round trip with fuel to spare. I did not fancy taking the trailer into a petrol station :) Cayenne did 27mpg on the way there and 21 for the round trip. I'll do the maths later but that's going to be well under 20 on the return leg. Not too surprising.

And yes, it does overhang a little bit. Trailer bed is 4.8m. Not too bad. I'm particularly chuffed that I bought a trailer that was too big at the time, though, here's the space either side of the Galaxie tyres:

It's hard to tell, but there's a few mm either side. Trailer bed is 1.9m. Bodywork sticks out another inch or so.

Edit: That makes 17.4mpg on the way home.

LOL ! It would be terrifying. This is a car for cruising (not like that).

The “history” file only contains old MOTs, save for this cutting that sadly is not dated:

The hood right now is certainly not "excellent" so that must have been quite some time ago. But if it’s all true and it’s had a rebuild and an LSD at some point then I reckon I’ve scored a great deal 8-)

Oh, and can someone let Rev know what I’ve done ? He’s still blocking me on Facebook and I’m not sure if he continues to lurk on here.

KLF coolness

If you see someone in a Mitsubishi l200, chimaera or combo flashing you it will be as I certainly won't miss that if I see it out on the street.

I don't know what's luckier, finding a 1 of 6 car or finding it fits on your trailer :D
Probably finding it fits in your garage...
I thought the 7 had gone? You'd probably just mentioned thinking about it. It's likely the closest in size the newcomer.
These days we should probably use F1 cars for our size benchmark.

Astonishingly, seeing as there are only six, one of the others is on eBay right now too. For £23k. It’s nicer than my one. I’m very curious what happened to the other four.

We’ve been out in the car a bit today and it runs really nicely. Although it’s been reluctant to start a couple of times. And it makes an light grinding noise over speed bumps. I think it’s the exhaust catching. Oh, and it leaks oil :D On the bright side that means it HAS oil. If it stops leaking I’ll panic.

And returning the length topic, when ordering your new Galaxie, if you felt it was a bit too small you could add the “Continental Kit” including a spare wheel carrier that adds at least another foot:

And makes it quite hard to get at the boot. <shrug>.

Yeah, Continental kits were big on luxury cars in the US up to the 80s. Pensioners liked them.

The mk5 Lincoln Continental had a fake continental kit lump in the bootlid.

Can you contact the seller expressing some interest and find out what they could tell you about the cars?

That “Continental Kit” would severely limit your ability to use a ferry to get to the continent

The long winter nights will fly by tinkering with it in preparation for sunny drives to the south coast next year with Mrs. SJ, reminiscing about the past with the Fairlane when you'd first met;
"I forgot what it was like trying to park one of these aircraft carriers."

Anyway, some updates.

1) It's definitely not waterproof. I knew the hood needs replacing but the car seems to be leaking all over the place. Window rubbers, boot seal, something on the bulkhead too I think. I didn't want to garage it but I think I might have to. I will order a proper cover too.

2) It wouldn't start yesterday, I eventually noticed a wire had fallen off the coil. There's lots of dodgy wiring under the bonnet. I'll have to start working through all that. A mix of original 55yo cables that are falling apart, and more modern bodges that are also falling apart.

3) I'm pretty sure there's a leak from one of the exhaust manifolds. Characteristic ticking noise when running.

4) I rewired the radio to fit a less modern, less nasty one. More dodgy wiring removed, and the speaker grilles in the footwells aren't speaker grilles ! They're heater vents and some clown had put the speakers in there, preventing the vents from opening  I think I'll end up putting the speakers under the front seats. There's not really anywhere else to put them without cutting panels.

5) On the topic of wiring, I managed to find a wiring diagram for the car. The whole thing fits on two sides of A4 !

6) The sun is shining and I want to go for a drive 8-)
