All running and stuff, but rough round the edges. Recent gearbox rebuild and some suspension bits. Has been used regularly and that's slightly reassuring wrt reliability.

I've not even seen in in person yet. Off to Leicestershire to collect on Saturday.

Because me ?

I once had an Australian '72 Ford Fairlane, waaaay back in the late nineties, when my wife & I were first dating. The Galaxie has very similar styling so this is a bit of a throwback to when we were young. I've been hankering for a big 'ol V8 recently. This cropped up. I like the stacked headlights. My wife likes the colour. RHD is a real rarity. Convertible will be awesome for cruising.

Also free VED, not MOT needed, and <£100 pa insurance.

Very cool. Doesn’t Andrew Frankel (or relative) own one that they take classic racing with Chris Harris (not a drophead tho)

Hence I specified USA, not "America" that could be taken as "North America" :)

Is your mid life crisis just lasting several years?

Long term car or just scratching an itch that you've missed for a while?

That's properly epic. I'm going through a real phase of googling various American cars like that, so can't wait to hear how you get on with it.
Cheers,

Mike.

Turns out it was a Falcon not a Galaxie. https://www.goodwood.com/grr/columnists ... six-hours/

Yeah, hilariously the Falcon is considered a compact in the range of the time. The Galaxie is about 2.5 feet longer

The Galaxie (coupe) was actually quite successful in NASCAR racing in the sixties. I wouldn't fancy racing one on a course any more technical than that though. Built for comfort, not for corners. Wafty waft waft.

I bought a motorbike in 2002. I think my midlife crisis has just kept rolling ever since :D

I'd like to hope it'll be a long term car. My wife is quite excited about it, which is a good sign, it means it'll get some extra leeway when it comes to running costs and "investing" in improvements. Parts availability seems very good, they built a lot of these BITD, and most of the transmission etc. is shared with other Fords of the period, of which they built literally millions. Rust will be the only big headache. I'm not going to be a buftie about the car and turn it into a garage queen, I just want to be able to drive it.

£6,211

I was high bidder, it didn't reach the reserve of £8k but the seller contacted me to accept my bid. I think / hope I've got a pretty good deal there.

That's a lot of car for six grand!

So make sure it's clean, do any mechanically necessary jobs (waxoyl etc), put some shiny bits on it, then go cruising?

In all respects that's a lot of car for the money!
