SJ’s Galaxie (was: Car Guess Game)

Post by Sundayjumper »

Yeah, another one. I was going to wait until it's actually here but I'm bored so here we are. I'm collecting it on Saturday.

  • Not a marque I'm normally associated with but I have owned cars from this marque in the past
  • It's older than me
  • Coil springs all round
  • V8 engine
  • Convertible

JonMad is not allowed to play, as he knows exactly what it is already !

Trying to think of one you'd be able to readily find in silver... early R107 Mercedes SL?

What country of manufacture?

Well coil springs rules out pretty much anything yankee I would've thought.

I'm a bit stumped though as most European stuff didn't come with v8s back in the 60/70s (not convertibles anyway) unless you've really splashed out on something high end or esoteric.

It’s no accident that I mentioned the coil springs….

Not a Land Rover.

The mystery car was fitted with coil springs from new. No conversion shenanigans going on here.

I can only think of Cadillacs for older USA V8s with coils.

It was not built in the USA.

No, but that's a very good guess as it is, in some ways, very much along those lines. Rolls Royce is even named as a comparison in some of <mystery car's> advertising.

That's a brand I'm associated with ! And the V8 in question is factory-fitted.

1966 Ford Galaxie Convertible, 390ci (6.4 litre) engine. Quite rare in that it's RHD. A special order from new built in Canada ;)
