£5k - what car
Re: £5k - what car
I think the Clio is probably the best bet
The Focus ST would be tempting, the 5 cyl engine sounds great but I think the Clio would be more fun to drive.

An absolute unit

Audi TT only has 4 seats in principle.

3rd and 4th. I managed c40k miles before mine needed doing. Don't expect to fit anyone comfortably in the back seats either.
I'd be trying to find a 130i personally.

Nearest 130i is a 2005 car in nottingham and has 160k on it.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 3:15 pm3rd and 4th. I managed c40k miles before mine needed doing. Don't expect to fit anyone comfortably in the back seats either.

And probably still more reliable and fun than the Clio Although it is in Notts, so, hmmscotta wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 3:45 pmNearest 130i is a 2005 car in nottingham and has 160k on it.Swervin_Mervin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 3:15 pm3rd and 4th. Re: £5k - what car
If you can find an early third gen Focus ST close to budget that might be a good option (possibly need a bit of budget creep), otherwise I'd be going Clio out of that list. What about Fiesta ST? Not sure on cost but they're meant to be a laugh and well put together IIRC.
Re: £5k - what car
About £7500 for a reasonably mileage one. Easy to steal though; need a disklok. I like them a lot.
I like them. Quirky little car. Very rare though, this one looks nice:

Probably my top two out of all the suggestions so far. (budget creep obvs)

Like that. Didn’t @Jobbo have one at some point or am I getting up mixed?Coaster1 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:13 pm

What could possibly go wrong? (That isn’t already broke…..)

Yes, got my ex-wife one in 2008. She still has it I think. I drive it quite a bit; funky looking and nice to live with except the boot is a bit small and hasn’t got a proper cover so your stuff is slightly on display.mik wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:42 pmLike that. Not a fun drive though. Engine note is ok but it has very linear power delivery and no incentive to rev it out. Handling isn’t all that interesting, understeery and the ride is a bit stiff-legged.

Buried under the M3*. That's why nobody has spotted the shallow grave.
