£5k - what car

Post by scotta »

So im in a bit of a dilemma - value on the M240i has shot up recently and ive got a bit of equity sat in the car. I have been thinking of selling it to get the equity out and buying something thats not on the never never.

Budget £5k + evonomics

It needs to be 4 seats as i dont want another 2 seater - thats what the Elise and the mini are for.

Initial thoughts are.

Civic Type R
Clio RS200
Audi TT/A3
Mk5 Golf GTI
Octavia VRS
Focus ST

what else?

The Clio always heads my "what would I buy for less than £5k" list.

2dr fine - just 4 seats needed incase ive got the two boys to take somewhere. For family and dogs outings (like visiting you) we'd have the 3'er.

Then I agree Clio is attractive. I’d consider Leon too.

Been thinking similar as mine is a big ornament atm. Civic appeals but finding one for 5k is tricky unless it's the newer iteration.

MK1 focus also tickles fancy.

I had a quick look on AT out of interest. Set it to hatchbacks with 0-60 times under 8 seconds to give some more of the sporty options.
There were some other options in that range outside of the ones mentioned:
- VW POLO GTI
- Vauxhall Corsa VRS
- Mazda 3 MPS
- Peugeot 208 GTI
- Alfa Giulietta / Mito
- Seat Ibiza

*No idea if they'd be any good as not had or driven any of them*

Kind of think the Clio would be my choice though.

Don’t Clio RS200 have chocolate gearbox?

I think @Swervin_Mervin had one?

325ti compact and keep £2k in the bank.

500 Abarth considered to be a 4 seater. Depends how big your boys are. There's a few of the higher powered Essesse ones available for *around* that budget

Not that hard was it Rich?

Maybe I should've taken your reaction to my thread more personally!

C30 T5 is an better looking alternative to a Focus ST possibly?

Spaceship Civic Type R would probably be my pick on that list, they're good fun to drive.

Mazda 3s will all be rusty at that price point I imagine.

RX8 with a warranted rebuild would be less than 5k?

The difference is, he's asking for a fun car and he's already checked if his budget can afford any.

Have you found any cars that fit your list of requirements and budget?

Of course, there's loads. As you well know, when you did your search you took all of my optional but not essentials in order to try and make some sort of point, but many others made loads of suggestions that fitted the criteria.

As for it being a fun car, probably a majority in this forum don't run fun cars, so not unreasonable to ask for advice about it. Is it just that we need to ensure we don't start threads that you are not personally interested in to avoid facing your wrath?

Our r55 clubmans pretty roomy. Try one with 200 plus bhp. Good fun, 40 mpg on a run, 30 around town.
