Ah yeah, I missed the petrol requirement. Everything I saw when I had a quick scan was the small diesel. Never mind.

An absolute unit
Re: Which boring car...
V40 might be a decent shout. A size down from what you’re looking for obviously but they’re nice cars.

I know it's not a Petrol but it is ULEZ compliant and very economical.
Cool car though with Hydrodespastic Suspension

Run, run, FAR away from that C5
I looked at loads of them, and C6s before I got my XF as I REALLY wanted a go on modern Hydractive 3 suspension.
Even the Citroen specialist I test drove a 3.0 one at, told me to make sure I had a back up car if I need it for every day use
The pipes seem to rot on them for some reason, steering racks are shit, windows regularly stop working, the 2.0 ones have all manner of injector and DPF issues as well.
Such a shame

The suspension, other than corroding pipes, is pretty reliable.
The rest of the car sadly, is not.
Re: Which boring car...
Yeah, I can have diesel I guess. Didn't know it was such a difference maker in terms of options!
Re: Which boring car...
Newer Jag xj seems like a bargain. Superb is a great choice though, I couldn't find an Octavia with adaptive cruise so ruled it out.
Re: Which boring car...
Very boring but Toyota Auris. Can have as an estate, hybrid system is economical (50+ mpg motorway, more around town), relaxing to drive, stupidly reliable. When it gets to 10 years old it’ll almost certainly still comply with clean air zones so be in demand.
Honda Civic tourer worth a look (my dad has one and it’s vast as a load-lugger), 1.8 petrol is decent but not as economical as the Toyota.

Re: Which boring car...
Modern Peugeots are really comfy from a passenger’s POV. Been in a few Peugeot taxis; much better than Toyota, Audi or even Mercedes.
I like my mate’s 5008 a lot also. (again from the passenger seat)

Re: Which boring car...
I did read what you said Duncs, but surely a new £200pcm-over-4 years leased car would be the most sensible and reliable choice..
Plenty of options like a Cupra Evo (1.5 TSI), T-Roc Evo, A4 avant, etc. even a M135i is only £235/285pcm (business/personal).. all dependant on annual mileage obviously

Re: Which boring car...
Yeah, mileage is the problem Ian. Don't really know what it will be, but it will be quite a lot.
Re: Which boring car...
And if you do this, Duncs, check whether there’s a two tier excess mileage rate. My Volvo lease was cheap for extra miles (6.7p/mile inc VAT) but only up to 5000 extra miles then went up a lot.
Re: Which boring car...
The mileage rate doesn't even cover fuel, so there's no chance of that!
I don't know, after years of leasing I feel like owning something.
Re: Which boring car...
The Auris does tick a lot of boxes, but the hybrid is a bit out of budget I think. The Octavia or Superb look like pretty good value.
