New car buying advice type thread

Post by Explosive Newt »

Currently Jag XF diesel (for: crusing, comfort, etc) and Boxster (for: fun)

Need to split these two down the middle and make 1 car that does everything.

Thoughts?

Giulia
2-series
Jag XK?

Seems the x40i in 1/2 series guises are good options. Others love theirs too. So: SIC.

What age we talking?

Also depends on the balance of comfort to fun tbh - 3/440i an alternative if you want more comfort?

This is also true.

Evora remains my only car - even took the 36kg dug to the vets on the back seat yesterday (and will repeat the trip later this week). Practical sports cars FT(MF)W 8-)

OK we have the E-Tron as the practical car, but we no longer need 2 practical cars…..

The comfort/fun thing is a fine balance. The roads round here are ghastly and I worry a 2-series is going to be a bit firm, hence the appeal of a Giulia with the variable dampers.

Prob £20-30k range although interestingly I just saw a very nice XK for 14…

Golf R then. Much better damped than the 2 series.

You can get 1/2 with adaptive dampers afaik. The ride on our F20 125i MSport with the adpative dampers was fairly decent, especially once we swapped to RFTs. Maybe a 3/4 might be a better balance though with the extra wheelbase.

I only asked age-wise as E8x/E9x 1/3series 6-pot prices are now firming up (they have been for a couple of years tbh). There's an LCI 335i Manual on M3cutters at £8k, if it's still available (E91s don't hang around for long especially not manual ones).

Sounds like I need to sign myself up to M3cutters :?

XF-R? If you liked your XF and you’re considering an XK it could be worth a look.

I do like the XF but I feel it's a bit too big for me; apart from anything else it's a bugger to park. The XE doesn't seem to be as good to drive from what the reviews say, although might be worth a go.

I wonder if a 4-series might be a better bet than a 2? I'm not sold on the current line of front ends of course....

That’s fair enough, I’d have trouble seeing past the last M3/4 with your requirements and budget.

The XF is massive tbf, maybe even longer than a Stagea 😳

Don't get an XK if you ever need rear seats, even for children.

ISF? Compact, reliable and fun?

I never saw the point of having two cars in the first place. Just get an M car and do everything well in one car.
