Merc C-class (W206)
Merc C-class (W206)
Just seen pictures of the all-new C-class: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new- ... xury-focus
Other than the front and rear lights and some detailing, it looks basically the same as the last one. Have Merc ever stuck so closely to the previous model's design? The W213 E-class facelift looks about as different from the pre-facelift version.
Worse still, AMG versions will be 4-cylinder. This was already known but it's a shame. The W205 lost 6-cyls in the normal range (no bigger diesel or petrol versions) but the C43 AMG appeared later to fill the gap to the C63. Now even the AMGs are less appealing

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
I think it looks worse than the outgoing model. All their new cars look like the CLA now which isn't a very nice design.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Merc C-class (W206)
On the 6 cylinder thing, in an interview they said that the (i6) would make the front about 2 inches longer and the i6 hybrid setup from the E53 would make the whole car too heavy, so the move to i4 hybrids for the AMGs. Don't forget that the C43 was a V6.
Apparently Tobias Moers stormed out the meeting where they ditched the V8 for the C63...

I didn't forget the C43
Re: Merc C-class (W206)
I think he meant that it was a V6 rather than an i6, so shorter.
Re: Merc C-class (W206)
I think I’d rather have a 1000 bhp electric AMG over an obnoxiously noisy 4 banger whose only modicum of character is farting during upshifts.

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
I get it, I do. The A45S motor is good and everything, but I hope they don't just take that and add the electric motor from the C300e to it. That's a bit too formulaic.

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
Ah - but the V6 petrol hasn't been replaced by an i6 as the diesels have, so would still fit presumably.
ETA: just found a little entry on Wikipedia that the petrol E450 is now an i6 as well. I hadn't noticed that change.
Re: Merc C-class (W206)
Are you trying to tell Coaster what he likes?
Re: Merc C-class (W206)
No, I'm just saying we're referring to very different cars.

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
Engine range not entirely surprising given Jaguar will be ICE free by 2025 which will be mid-cycle for this.

Bye bye AMG, you had a good run.

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
Seeing as the W205/6 seemingly share so much I'd be surprised if this can go full electric, given the architecture is from 2014. Will probably wait for the 207 for that to happen. (The W204 shared the W203's floorpan as well)

Re: Merc C-class (W206)
Are you sure the W204 shared the W203 platform? I know the C207 E-class coupe shared the W204 platform but Merc went on about the W204 being a new, all CAD design. The CLC was based on the W203 C Sport Coupe with W204-style front and rear ends stuck on.

Seems like it's part of the de-lustification of cars that's going on at the moment. It's to make the transition to EV much easier - let's be honest even a good chunk of petrolheads would rather an EV than yet another parpy turbot 4-pot.
